Alright, let's get you that parcel for Professor Oak and snag your first Pokédex! This is a pretty straightforward part of your journey in Pokémon Yellow, mostly involving a bit of travel. We'll head south from Saffron City towards Vermilion City.

Walkthrough

You'll start in Saffron City. Head south to exit the city and enter Route 6.

Route 6 is a straightforward path leading south. Keep moving forward.

You'll pass the entrance to the Underground Path on your left. Just keep heading south.

Eventually, you'll reach Vermilion City. Once you're in Vermilion City, your next main objective is to head to the Pokémon Fan Club building.

Inside the Fan Club, talk to the Chairman. He's a bit of a talker, but after you listen to him, he'll give you a crucial item: the Pokédex!

With the Pokédex in hand, you'll want to head back to Professor Oak in Pallet Town to report your success and get your starter Pokémon.

Tips

There are a few trainers on Route 6, like a Bug Catcher and some Jr. Trainers. If your Pokémon are a bit underleveled, you might want to battle them to gain some experience. The Bug Catcher has a Lv.16 Weedle and Caterpie, and the Jr. Trainers have a Lv.16 Weepinbell and Lv.16 Cubone respectively.
Don't worry too much about battling every trainer if you're in a hurry, but remember that battles are the primary way to level up your Pokémon.
Make sure you have enough Poké Balls if you plan on catching any new Pokémon along the way!
