How to Beat Gym Leader: Blaine (Cinnabar Island)

Alright, so you've made it to Cinnabar Island and you're ready to take on Blaine, the fiery Gym Leader! He's got some tough Fire-type Pokémon, so you'll need to come prepared. Don't worry, I'll walk you through exactly what you need to do to snag that Volcano Badge.

Stats / Weaknesses:

• Blaine's Pokémon: All Fire-type.
• Weaknesses: Water, Ground.
• Resistances: Fire, Grass, Ice, Bug, Steel (though Steel isn't in Gen 1).
• Key Threats: High Special Attack stats on his Pokémon, meaning they hit hard with special moves.

Phases:

1. Gym Entrance: You'll need to find the correct switch to open the door to Blaine. It's hidden among the statues.
2. Gym Trainers: There are a few trainers before Blaine that you'll need to battle. They also use Fire-type Pokémon.
3. Blaine Battle: The main event! Blaine has a team of powerful Fire-types.

Strategy:

• Pokémon to Bring: Your best bet is to have a strong Water-type Pokémon. Vaporeon, Starmie, or even a Golduck can do wonders here. If you've trained a Staryu or Shellder, they'll be excellent. Pokémon with strong Ground-type moves like Diglett/Dugtrio can also be effective.
• Avoid Weaknesses: Absolutely do NOT bring Grass or Bug-type Pokémon. They will get absolutely roasted by Blaine's team. Fire-types are also a bad idea, as they'll just cancel each other out or take neutral damage.
• Leverage Water Moves: If your Pokémon know Water-type moves like 'Water Gun', 'Bubble Beam', or 'Surf', now is the time to use them! They'll be super effective against Blaine's Pokémon.
• Watch Out for Status: Blaine's Pokémon can sometimes inflict status conditions like Burn. Have some Full Heals or an Antidote handy, or rely on Pokémon that can resist or cure these.
• The Switch Puzzle: Inside the gym, you'll see a series of statues. One of them is actually a switch! You need to interact with them in the right order to open the path to Blaine. If you interact with the wrong one, you'll be teleported back to the entrance. The correct switch is usually the one that looks slightly different or is in a specific position. Experiment by interacting with them one by one until the path opens.
• Blaine's Arcanine: His signature Pokémon is Arcanine. It's fast and hits hard. A strong Water-type move should take it down quickly, but be ready for its powerful attacks.
