Master all status effects in One Piece Odyssey, including Burn, Bleed, Poison, Freeze, Sleep, Faint, Paralyze, Confuse, and Charm. Learn their effects and how to counter them.
In One Piece Odyssey, status effects can significantly impact combat. These effects are broadly categorized into Damage over Time (DoT), Stuns, and Confusion. While not explicitly separated in-game, effects like Burn and Poison deal damage over turns, and mind-control effects like Confusion and Charm can cause enemies to attack each other.
Understanding each status effect is crucial for both leveraging them against enemies and mitigating them for your party. Enemy resistances and your party's resistances play a key role in their effectiveness.
Status Effect Types
Status effects in One Piece Odyssey can be grouped into three main categories:
- Damage over Time (DoT): Effects that inflict damage gradually over several turns. Examples include Burn, Bleed, and Poison.
- Stuns: Effects that prevent a target from acting for a set duration. Examples include Freeze, Sleep, Faint, and Paralyze.
- Confusion: Effects that manipulate a target's actions, often causing them to attack allies. Examples include Confuse and Charm.

Detailed Status Effect Breakdown
Burn
Burn is a damage-over-time effect that deals fire damage at the end of the affected target's turn for 2–3 turns, and also lowers their DEF (defense). This makes them more vulnerable to subsequent attacks. Burn attacks often come from moves with a fire elemental affinity. Franky and Usopp have skills that can inflict Burn. Enemies like Sandora Dragon and Fire Colossus can also inflict Burn. The chance of being burned is influenced by a character's Guts and Burn resistance. Burn can be cured by Chopper’s Cure skill or items like Burn Brew. It is most effective against Beast and Plant-type enemies.
Bleed
Bleed, similar to Burn, deals damage over 2–3 turns and inflicts ATK (Attack) down. When an enemy with Bleed completes their turn, they take damage based on the strength of the attacker and the target's defense. Bleeds are often associated with bladed weapons and can be inflicted by characters using swords or similar melee weapons. Enemies like Sailor, Enies Lobby Agent, Commodore Guard, and Baroque Works Millions can inflict Bleed. Zoro's primary attack and battle skills can apply Bleed, especially against humanoid enemy types. Bleed can be cured by Chopper’s Cure skill, Small Drumstick, or Bandage Brew.
Poison
Poison is another damage-over-time effect that lasts for approximately 2–3 turns. Damage is based on the user's strength and the afflicted's defense. Some characters have higher innate Poison resistance (Luffy has 100 resistance, while others start at 0). Plant or animal-themed enemies, such as the Black Brother scorpion, are likely to inflict Poison. The player party does not have any innate skills that can poison enemies. Poison can be cured by Chopper’s Care skill, Antidote Brew, or Scorpion and Clam Soup.
Freeze
Freeze temporarily immobilizes the target, preventing them from acting for a few turns. This is a form of turn skipping. Frost-themed spells, which can inflict Freeze, are typically used by enemies found in the Ice Block Ruins, accessible in Chapter 5.
