Understand the Mario Kart Wii ranking system, starting points, and how finishing positions affect your score.

You begin with 5000 points. Your point total increases if you finish in the top 6 positions and decreases if you finish in the bottom 6. Finishing in the top two or bottom two positions results in a steeper point change of approximately 100 points either way.

You can check your current rank at any time by viewing the License Details located at the top of the screen (this is part of the Heads-Up Display, or HUD (heads-up display — the on-screen icons showing health, ammo and the minimap)).

Tips
  • Aim for top finishes to increase your points quickly.
  • Be aware that the top two and bottom two positions have a significant impact on your score.
  • Regularly check your License Details to monitor your progress.
