Learn the best lines, shortcuts, and strategies to conquer the DS Desert Hills track in Mario Kart Wii. Get ahead of the competition!

Alright, let's tackle DS Desert Hills! This track is all about taking those long, sweeping turns and knowing when to drift. It might look simple, but there are a few tricky spots and shortcuts that can really shave off time.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
You'll start on a long right bend. Make sure you drift close to the inside of this turn.
  2. 2
Immediately after, you'll hit some left and right turns. Keep that drift going on the inside of these too.
  3. 3
Your first obstacle is a Pokey! It's pretty easy to avoid if you're keeping your line tight.
  4. 4
After the Pokey, you'll go over a hill onto a straight. Watch out for more Pokeys here, and grab the Item Boxes if you can.
  5. 5
Next up is another long turn with a few sharp bends. This is prime drifting territory.
  6. 6
There are Item Boxes on the outside of these sharp bends. If you're really trying to maximize your item collection and don't mind losing a second or two, you can go for them. Otherwise, stick to the inside line.
  7. 7
After these turns, you'll reach the checkpoint straight.
  8. 8
On your second lap, fireballs start appearing. The first one will be on the right side of the pyramid.
  9. 9
There's also a fireball in the twisty end section on the second lap.
  10. 10
On your third lap, fireballs appear just after the checkpoint and again in that twisty end section.
  11. 11
To avoid the fireballs, you need to see where they're coming from. Look for their fire trail behind them, and then move to the area they just came from.

Shortcuts:

  • After the very first bend, you'll see a pyramid to your left. There's a dirt path to its left. If you have a Mushroom, use it here to cut across the dirt and save some time.
  • On the very last corner of the track, there's a large area of dirt. If you use a Mushroom just before this corner, you can use it to jump over the dirt and take a faster line.

Other Tips:

  • This course is pretty wide, so don't be afraid to drift through most of the turns. It's your best friend here.
  • There's a ramp right before the straight with the two Pokeys. You can pull off a trick off this ramp for a small speed boost.
  • For Time Trials, you can use a Mushroom to skip out the final corner, just like the shortcut suggests.
