Game modes

Explore Gears 5 game modes including Campaign (1-3 players), Versus (up to 10 players), Escape (1-3 players), Horde (up to 5 players), and Boot Camp (1 player).

Campaign: 1-3 players. Play through the story mode of Gears 5 and uncover the mysteries of Kait's origin and her relationship with the Cog and the Swarm.

Versus: up to 10 players. Versus has a bunch of game modes for you to play with friends, which consists of:

  • Arcade deathmatch; Eliminate members of the opposing team to win the round. Weapons are unlocked by redeeming points obtained for each elimination.
  • Arms Race; Kill the enemy with every gun. Every three kills change your team's weapon. The team to get three kills with the last weapon will win.
  • Dodgeball; Eliminate the opposing team to win. Every kill brings back a dead teammate.
  • Escalation; Capture the rings to win. New weapons are placed by each team every round.
  • Execution; Eliminate all members of the opposing team using executions. You get one life per round.
  • Guardian; Execute the enemy team leader to prevent respawns (where dead players cannot return), then eliminate the opposing team to win.
  • King of the hill; Capture and hold the objective ring to score enough points to win. Teammates will respawn (where dead players return) at the same time every 15 seconds.
  • Team deathmatch; Eliminate all members of the opposing team. Each team has limited respawns (where dead players return) where dead players will spawn together every 15 seconds.
  • Warzone; Eliminate all members of the opposing team. You get one life per round. You cannot self-revive from DBNO (Down But Not Out).

Escape: 1-3 players. Play through all-new mode Escape which consists of taking on raids in dungeons. You and your teammates start with basic weapons and must complete the dungeon before the timer that spreads venom to kill the Swarm kills you too.

Horde: up to 5 players. Survive 50 hordes of enemies. As you progress, you can build defenses and traps.

Boot camp: 1 player. Boot camp takes you to learn the basics of Gears of War. If you are a new player of the series, it is suggested to play it first.
