Ores and their processed metal forms are crucial for crafting advanced tools, equipment, and structural upgrades in Fields of Mistria. The primary location for acquiring ores is the Mines, a multi-level dungeon that becomes accessible early in the game. As you descend deeper into the Mines, the types and quality of ores you can find will improve. The initial levels might yield basic ores like Copper and Iron, while deeper sections, especially those added in updates like the v0.15.0 update which expanded the Mines to include the Ruins, will offer rarer and more valuable metals such as Gold and Mistril.

To extract ores, you will need a pickaxe. Similar to axes, pickaxes come in various tiers, starting with the Basic Pickaxe and progressing to Copper Pickaxe, Steel Pickaxe, and eventually Gold Pickaxe. Each tier of pickaxe allows you to break tougher ore nodes and mine faster. Once ores are collected, they must be smelted into bars using a furnace. The Furnace is a craftable item, typically learned early on, and requires fuel such as Wood or Coal to operate. Smelted bars are then used in crafting recipes for higher-tier tools, armor, and building components.

Specific ores and metals are vital for progression. For example, Copper Bars are needed for early tool upgrades and some crafting recipes, while Iron Bars are essential for mid-game advancements. Gold Bars are required for even more powerful equipment and certain quest items. The introduction of Mistril, likely found in the deepest parts of the Mines or the Ruins, suggests it's a late-game material for the most potent gear. Keeping a steady supply of ores and bars is paramount for crafting items like the Steel Axe, Gold Watering Can, and potentially components for town restoration projects. The Request Board may also feature requests for specific metal bars, offering rewards and potentially unlocking new crafting recipes.
