Harvesting wood is a fundamental activity in Fields of Mistria, providing the raw materials necessary for crafting a wide array of items, from farm buildings and furniture to tools and decorative objects. Different types of trees yield distinct kinds of wood, each with its own uses and rarity.

The primary source of wood is found in the various forested areas surrounding Mistria. As you progress, you will encounter different tree types that require progressively better axes to chop down. The quality of your axe directly impacts the speed at which you can harvest wood and the types of trees you can interact with.

• Softwood: This is the most common type of wood, typically harvested from young or standard trees found in the early areas of the game, such as the Town Outskirts. Softwood is essential for basic crafting recipes, including early farm upgrades and simple furniture. It's also a common material requested by townsfolk early on.
• Hardwood: Found in more mature trees, often located in areas like the Whispering Woods or along the Misty Mountainside. Hardwood is more durable and is used in crafting more robust items, such as advanced farm buildings, sturdier tools, and certain decorative pieces. It often requires an upgraded axe to harvest.
• Ancient Wood: This rare and valuable wood is harvested from ancient or gnarled trees, typically found in more secluded or challenging areas, such as deep within the Whispering Woods or on the higher slopes of the Misty Mountainside. Ancient Wood is crucial for crafting high-tier items, including specialized equipment and unique decorative structures that can significantly boost your farm's appeal and functionality. Harvesting Ancient Wood often requires a high-level axe.

The February 2026 v0.15.0 update also introduced new crafting stations like Apiaries and Terrariums, which may indirectly influence the demand for certain wood types for their construction or upgrades. Furthermore, specific Skill Perks, such as "Lumberjack's Strength" (which increases wood chopping speed by 20%), can greatly improve your logging efficiency. always ensure their axe is upgraded to the highest possible tier to access all types of trees and maximize their wood harvesting output.
