- NERO Research Site (East Central Margin): Located southeast of the Infestation at the High Desert Logging Co. Revealed by clearing the Horse Lake Ambush Camp. Ride east along the railway track past the logging camp and across the railway bridge to find a makeshift campsite with the case. Usually little or no opposition. Has a gas can and other resources.
- NERO Research Site (Southeast of Copeland's Camp): Located about 320 meters southeast of Copeland's Camp. Requires jumping a gulch with an upgraded engine and nitrous upgrade from the dirt path northwest of the crash site. The case with the NERO Injector, recorder, and a gas can are at the site.
- NERO Research Site (Cave with O'Brian): Located in the cave where you encounter O'Brian in the mission They're Not Sleeping, detailed in Section 3: Smoke On The Mountain. Best visited after the chopper departs and roaming Freaks near the Old Pioneer Cemetery Infestation nest site are cleared. Beware of the horde that hibernates there during the daytime.
- NERO Research Site (The White King Mine): Located in The White King Mine in the extreme northwest region of Cascade, about 375 meters northwest of the Horse Lake NERO Checkpoint, on high ground above the Marion Forks Tunnel. Best visited at night when the small horde hibernating inside is foraging. Follow the tracks deep inside the mine to find the case.
Belknap Region NERO Checkpoints:
- Iron Butte NERO Checkpoint: Located west of Crazy Willies and southeast of the Hot Springs Camp. Scout from the overlook about 90 meters short. The fenced site is occupied by eight or nine Rippers, with sentries on roofs. Snipe rooftop sentries and outliers before engaging defenders. The site has seven speakers (two on each NERO building, one on each north end guard hut, one on the light tower near the south gate). A gas can is near the northeast fence. Repair the generator to energize the doors. This checkpoint is part of the storyline World's End, rewarding 1,000 XP, 750 trust, and 1,200 credits.
- Marion Forks Tunnel NERO Checkpoint: Embedded in Section 4: Price On Your Head.
Belknap Region NERO Research Sites:
- NERO Research Site (West Margin, South): The southernmost of two markers on the western margin of Belknap, about 400 meters due west of Hot Springs Camp. Likely roaming Freaks and wolves in the area. Requires an upgraded bike with nitrous boost to jump a gap in a rock wall on a dirt path. After the jump, skirt counterclockwise around the outcropping and climb the ledge to reach the crash site. The case with the NERO Injector, recorder, and a gas can are present.
- NERO Research Site (West Margin, North): Located about 430 meters northwest of Hot Springs Camp. Revealed by taking the Bear Creek Hot Springs Ambush Camp. Ride to the area at night to avoid the horde hibernating in the cave during daytime. Freaks may still be present. The site is deep inside a cave whose entry is about 75 meters east of the marker near a small pond.
Lost Lake Region NERO Checkpoints:
- Old Sawmill NERO Checkpoint: Located about 475 meters southeast of camp, alongside the Old Sawmill where a horde hibernates inside the big machinery.
