Machine Room

A complete walkthrough for the Machine Room in Amnesia: The Dark Descent, including solutions for the Pressure Machine, Flow Machine, and Power Room puzzles.

As you enter the Machine Room, head into the first open room ahead. On a table to your left, you'll find a note detailing Daniel's theft of orb references from Professor Herbert's office and the recent death of a geologist. In the corner, find a tinderbox on a box and another hidden behind pipes.

Locate the machine with levers marked with Roman numerals. The clue "8 up, 8 down" refers to this puzzle.

Pressure Machine Solution:

The Roman numerals on the Top levers are: III, III, V, I, II, IV. The Bottom levers are: I, V, VI, V, II, II. To achieve "8 up, 8 down," adjust the levers as follows:

• Top Part: Raise levers III, III, and II.
• Bottom Part: Lower levers VI and II.

With the flow stabilized, exit the room and proceed downstairs. Enter the room on your left. Inside, a chest in the right corner contains two tinderboxes. A note on the left table reveals Alexander's offer of protection to Daniel. On the central wall, another machine awaits, with a box and a note nearby. This note mentions the storage of Rods, but you should already have what you need.

Flow Machine Solution:

Interact with the Flow Machine and insert the rods into their corresponding shapes:

• Circle: Flow Cycle Rod
• Triangle: Trinity Steam Rod
• Square: Four Phase Amplitude Rod

The logic connects the shapes to their names: Circle's roundness, Triangle's three points, and Square's four sides.

Before leaving, take the orange gear from the box to the right of the Flow Machine. Exit the room, turn left, and throw the gear downstairs. Grab the nearby gear resting on a pipe outside the Flow Machine room and throw it down as well.

Descend the stairs to solve the Elevator puzzle. Enter the room with the large machine and turn left. Behind a barrel and a box, find another orange gear. Bring all three gears to the center of the room.

Power Room Solution:

Examine the table with the candle for a note about Daniel's growing fear and reliance on Alexander. Enter the next room, which contains coal. On the right shelf, find a tinderbox. Refill your oil supply from the barrel of oil in the corner.

Collect three balls of coal from the ground and take them to the room with the large machine. Place the coal into the burner near the wall via the hatch, then close it and pull the lever. Next, approach the machine missing wheels. Place the three orange wheels near it; they will attach automatically. Finally, pull the lever to the left of the machine to restore the Elevator's function.

Return upstairs. The area will begin to transform into organic matter. Run to escape the Machine Room.
