After the intro cutscene, follow the corridor in Sewer Town - Southwest to find the Rusty Longsword. Use it to defeat the first enemies.

Continue up the stairs and grab Mud Ball x3 next to a corpse.

After defeating the next enemy, jump down and turn left to find a Void Beast and Pure Crystal x3. Defeat the Void Beast by dodging its attacks and striking from behind. It drops Luminous Carbon x1.

Kill the enemy opposite the Void Beast's cell, grab Crystallized Remains x1, and proceed to learn about Weapon Skills.

Defeat the two enemies, pick up Mud Ball x2, and continue down the corridor to find a third Mud Ball.

Dispatch the next enemy and grab Crystallized Remains x1 from a nearby corpse.

In the next room, backstab an enemy as per the tutorial and grab Mini Bomb x3.

The next enemy throws rocks; rush it while dodging or use a Mini Bomb. Clear the room and grab Stone x5 and the Old Notepad.

Defeat the fast Sewer Cleaner, moving out of the way to avoid its self-destruct. It drops the Railgun spell.

Talk to the old man for exposition, then proceed down the tunnel to find Pure Crystal x1 at the very end.

Enter the new area and meet Asteria, the Branchweaver. She tasks you with repairing the Branch (fast travel, upgrade point).

Return to the Branchweaver to receive Life Dew x3 and choose one of three weapons: Blader Longsword, Blader Swords, or Blader Greatsword.

Tips:

Master the Void Beast fight early on by performing short attack combos and then dodging.
Use backstabs and dodging effectively against faster enemies like the Sewer Cleaner.
