Wasteland 3 Ranger Sniper/Rocketer build guide for level 25, focusing on Explodomaniac background and Sadomasochist quirk for explosive damage.

Background: Explodomaniac

Quirk: Sadomasochist

Role The Sniper Rocketer role is to perform an overwhelming attack with a rocket launcher and a sniper rifle. During late game those attacks will stack +15% (effectively +5% for sniper rifles) explosive damage from the Explodomaniac background and +50% explosive damage from 10 levels of Explosives skill on top of regular +33% bonus damage from the Sadomasochist quirk. When paired with High Impact and Blast Radius perks, a rocket attack earns a guaranteed critical hit killing entire packs of the strongest enemies. What is even better, all subsequent sniper attacks will earn the same level of bonus damage thanks to HE Fuse Linkage under-barrel modification of a desired sniper rifle. Outside of combat, the Rocketer will disarm explosives, repair and disable power generators, and assist in persuasion, earning the second largest pool of skill-based experience in the entire squad.

Attribute Progression Invest your first attribute point into Strength to start gaining HP points per level, then optionally round up Speed, Charisma, and Luck to reduce their handicaps. After that, start maxing out Intelligence and Awareness in that particular priority. Dump remaining points into Luck.

Skills Progression

  1. Start the game with 3 points in Sniper Rifles and one point in Explosives, Mechanics, and Hard Ass.
  2. During most of the game, try to maintain between 3 to 5 unused skill points so you can always raise a particular skill needed for a skill check at hand.
  3. During the early game, allocate surplus points evenly.
  4. Stop raising Mechanics and Hard Ass at level 7, as both skills can be boosted by two points while wearing a related trinket and an armor piece.
  5. Pause investing into Sniper Rifles at level 7 and focus on reaching the 10th level in Explosives with the help of a skill book.
  6. After that, max out Sniper Rifles.
  7. Remaining points can be invested into Mechanics to further increase bonus damage against robots and vehicles.

Perks Progression

  • By level 25, you will gain enough perks to take most of your unlocked skill-related perks.
  • Tag all perks from Sniper Rifles.
  • From Explosives, tag Duck and Cover (press the cover button to crouch behind walls or objects), Bomb Recovery, and most importantly High Impact and Blast Radius to take full advantage of rocket launchers.
  • From Mechanics, tag Structural Weakness.
  • Spend the remaining 3 perks as you see fit. Some good candidates are Handy, Healthy, and even Deep Pockets.
