Unlocking New Space Marine Armor & Chapters

Learn how to unlock new armor sets, colors, and heraldry in Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2. Discover how to earn Requisition and customize your Space Marine.

After completing the prologue and the first campaign mission, [Skyfire], you will unlock the Armoury and two secondary online modes: Operations mode and Eternal War mode. These modes are essential for customizing your Space Marine's appearance beyond the standard blue ceramite.

Access the Armoury via the “Battle Map” terminal in the Launch Bay. Within the Armoury, particularly when controlling a custom character in PvE or PvP modes, you’ll find options to change your class and edit your armor. Select “Edit Armour” to view available armor options.

Changing Armour Sets

You can change your core armor set, which primarily affects its decorations. Alternatively, use the “Custom Armour Set” buttons to mix and match individual components like the helm, pauldrons, breastplate, wargear, gauntlets, and greaves. New armor sets are generally unlocked by completing matches in Operations mode or Eternal War.

Changing Chapter, Colour and Heraldry

To alter your armor's colors, heraldry, and chapter, navigate to the “Astartes Chapter” tab. You don't unlock individual colors or heraldry directly; instead, you unlock components used by other chapters. For instance, to get a black color, you might unlock a chapter that uses black, such as the Black Templars, Black Legion, or Omega Marines.

You can explore existing legions and their components via the “Heraldry” button, or create a new “Custom Armour Set.” Here, you can change the color, pattern, and emblem of armor components. These changes can be applied to the entire set using “General Rules” or individually using “Custom Rules” for specific pieces.

A notable limitation is that heraldry components, including colors, must be unlocked in a specific order. For example, to unlock the Nuln Oil color, you might first need to unlock a decal for the Omega Marines, even if you don't intend to use it. Unlocking each component requires spending Requisition, meaning extensive customization can be time-consuming.

Earning Requisition

Requisition, the currency for unlocking cosmetics, is earned by completing class Trials or Operations missions. Completing Operations missions on higher difficulties yields more Requisition:

Unlocking each cosmetic costs between 20-90 Requisition, with three to six unlocks per chapter. This necessitates some grinding to acquire all desired items. However, if you are focused on a specific chapter, the grind may not be excessively long.
