The Junkyard
Follow the perimeter of Edgewater north to find the Junkyard. A Damaged Mechanical Sentry (1285XP) wanders here, the target of the Die, Robot sidequest. You can fight it, or if you have Engineering 46, fix it yourself. Parvati can also fix it. Loot the numerous containers and a small dwelling. Report back to Ludwig Miller at the Landing Pad (1285XP). He will then direct you to the Cantina to retrieve his Bundle from behind the lavatory (1285XP). Return to Ludwig to receive a Mag-2-Zap mod (a community-made modification that changes the game). He will later ask you to retrieve a logic module from the Geothermal Plant.
Emerald Vale Community Centre
Continue northwest from the Junkyard to find a level 10 locked door back into Edgewater. Proceed through a shanty camp and past marauder enemies along the road. An abandoned bar on your right contains loot in the till and a level 5 locked container in the back room. More loot is upstairs, with a level 20 locked door on the balcony. The Emerald Vale Community Centre (800XP) is next. Clear the marauders outside before entering. Inside the lobby, defeat the marauder and interact with the level 5 terminal. If you have Hack 25, you can select "Encode First Aid Keycard". A side room contains another marauder, minor loot, and an Antique Sabre. Continue past two more marauders to a communal area with a vending machine, and a kitchen with minor loot and an exit. Take the other door to find loot in the hallway and a door requiring the First Aid Room Keycard. Inside this room is respectable loot and the Experimental Anthrocillin needed for the Long Tomorrow quest (1500XP). Retrace your steps to the lobby and go right to a wildlife exhibition room with a marauder and loot. Continue south through a toilet area to a lounge containing a level 5 locked container with the First Aid Room Key (if you couldn't get the keycard), a terminal, and a door you can unbar for a shortcut. Upstairs in the wildlife exhibition room, defeat a couple of marauders, one carrying another First Aid Room Key. On a desk, find the quest item 'Guide to Mechanical Engineering: Volume 1'. Loot other minor items before leaving via the lobby.
The Abandoned Outpost
Head southeast from the Junkyard until the road turns left, then continue northeast to the Abandoned Outpost (200XP). Defeat the numerous marauders. The road passes buildings; the one on the left has minor loot. The one on the right, marked with a Cannery sign, contains a lobby terminal with messages. Examine the device on the counter inside to advance the Illustrated Manual (3600XP). Additional loot is available inside and upstairs on the balcony.
Abandoned Industrial Zone
Follow the road northeast to the Abandoned Industrial Zone. Save your game. Navigate around the back of the first building, being careful of mines; shoot them from a distance. Engage the enemies, but be prepared for a rush of marauders and canids. If necessary, perform a tactical retreat. Among the fallen marauders is Guillaume Antrim, whose finger is needed for the Fistful of Digits quest (500XP). Three buildings in the complex contain minor loot. Beware of mines throughout the area. You may encounter Zoe Chandler, a character from a later quest.
Optional Area: Primal Nest
Between the Abandoned Industrial Zone and the Emerald Vale Community Centre lies the Primal Nest. This area is dangerous due to a large number of primal enemies, especially on Supernova difficulty. Enter from the west and snipe enemies from a distance. After clearing the western group, claim the unique Light Machine Gun Ol' Reliable from the body of a Corporate Commander.
Botanical Lab
Continue west along the road, defeating marauder enemies. At a fork, turn right and head northwest to find the Botanical Lab (1000XP). Loot the corpses and speak with the guard, Grace Romero.
