How to Beat The Corrosive Maw

Defeat The Corrosive Maw in The Alters. Learn its Acid Barrage attack patterns and exploit its weaknesses to overcome this boss guarding rare minerals.

Location: Deep Acidic Caverns (Chapter 4)
Description: A massive, subterranean creature that secretes highly corrosive acid, capable of rapidly dissolving the Mobile Base's hull or your Alters' suits. It's primarily a defensive creature, guarding a rich deposit of rare minerals.

Phases & Strategy:

1. Phase 1: Acid Barrage: The Maw will emerge from the acid pools, spitting concentrated acid at the Mobile Base. Immediately ass an Engineer Alter to reinforce the hull and a Scientist Alter to analyze the acid's composition. Jan should be on the Bridge, attempting to maneuver the base to avoid direct hits.
2. Phase 2: Vulnerable Core: After several barrages, the Maw will expose a glowing, pulsating core. This is its weak point. Deploy a Miner Alter with an upgraded mining tool or a Combat Alter with a heavy weapon to attack the core. The acid environment will still be active, so ensure they have highly resistant suits and a Medic Alter on standby.
3. Phase 3: Retreat & Re-engage: If you deal enough damage, the Maw will temporarily retreat into the acid. Use this time to repair damage, heal Alters, and re-evaluate your strategy. The Maw will return, often with increased aggression. Repeat the process until its core is destroyed.

Weaknesses:

• Kinetic Damage: Direct hits to the exposed core with heavy mining tools or projectile weapons.
• Cryo-Agents: If your Scientist Alter has researched cryo-technology, cryo-grenades can temporarily solidify the acid, exposing the Maw for longer.

Rewards:

Access to the rich mineral deposit it was guarding, unique biological samples from its remains, and a significant boost to crew morale.
