Detailed guide on how to traverse the Stormgate in Elden Ring, including combat strategies, item locations, and enemy types.

The Stormgate is a heavily guarded area that marks the border between Limgrave and Stormhill. It is located north from the Gatefront Ruins. As you approach, you'll find a Site of Grace at its entrance; activate it immediately. The path is narrow and heavily fortified with barricades, numerous Soldiers, and a formidable Troll. Archer Soldiers are positioned on elevated platforms, making a direct assault challenging.

Strategy:

  • Stealth/Horseback: The safest way to traverse Stormgate, especially early on, is to ride through on Torrent. You can bypass most enemies by simply galloping past them. Ensure you have the Spectral Steed Whistle.
  • Direct Combat: If you choose to fight, prioritize the Archer Soldiers first to reduce incoming damage. The Troll is a powerful enemy; consider using ranged attacks or hit-and-run tactics. Some sources suggest the Troll is weak to fire, while others report ice — verify in-game.
  • Loot: Keep an eye out for valuable items. Archer Soldiers may drop Lordsworn's Bolt. You can also find Herba, Mushroom, Rowa Fruit, Ruin Fragment, Pickled Turtle Neck, Golden Rune [1], Lump of Flesh, and Smithing Stone (1) throughout the area.
  • Hidden Chest: There is a chest containing a Lordsworn's Greatsword located in a chariot near the exit of Gatefront Ruins, just before entering Stormgate.

Successfully navigating the Stormgate will lead you into the Stormhill region, bringing you closer to Stormveil Castle.
