Discover miscellaneous information about SSX 3, including snowboard design acquisition, community contributions, and essential gear types like Armor, Headlamps, and Wingsuits.
There is no way to save a snowboard design and attach it to a specific board type. If you see a design you like, purchase it immediately, as it may be a long time before you encounter it again. While an exact number hasn't been confirmed, developers have stated there are over 1000 snowboard designs in the game, with the Shop randomly selecting one for the Board section. If a design appeals to you, buy it to ensure you don't miss out.
Many of the board designs in SSX 3 were created by members of Merqurycity.com. EA hosted a Community Day in June 2011, where several Merqury City members were present. The possibility of accepting community-submitted board designs was raised with EA. Months later, EA launched a Facebook application enabling users to submit their board designs. At the last count, Merqury City members had contributed over 300 designs to the game, with several members receiving credit for their excellent submissions.
Gear
As you embark on your journey to defy reality in SSX 3, you will quickly learn that appropriate Gear is necessary to effectively tackle the Deadly Descents and survival events. There are 7 distinct types of Gear: Armor, Headlamps, Ice Axes, Oxygen Tanks, Pulse Goggles, Solar Panels, and Wingsuits. All Gear has a Level (Lv) requirement, which your character must meet before purchasing and equipping it. An exception is signature Gear, a special type unique to each character, which is always Lv 6 but can be equipped at any level.
When participating in an event that mandates Gear, the game will present a survival probability percentage based on whether you have the required gear equipped. You will then have the option to optimize your loadout accordingly. Each piece of Gear serves a specific purpose and possesses multiple stats that define its strengths and weaknesses. Generally, an "All-around" Gear piece indicates balanced stats.
At level one, your character has one Gear slot. Upon reaching level 10, you unlock a second Gear slot, allowing for more versatile outfitting. The following details each Gear type, its usage, and statistics.
Armor
Armor acts as a protective measure against impacts with hard objects. Its primary use is in survival events involving Trees, Rocks, and Avalanches. In these events, your character's health bar turns yellow, and if armor is equipped, a white Armor bar will appear. This signifies that your character is protected from Health damage until the Armor bar is depleted. Your character will sustain damage (to Health or Armor) upon colliding with hard objects, being caught in an Avalanche, or bailing. Your armor does not regenerate, but once destroyed, your Health will regenerate after taking hits. It is important to note that each time you take Health damage, even if it regenerates, your maximum Health will be reduced. Every piece of armor has two stats: DURABILITY and HEALTH RECOVERY.
