Discover the secret path to World 7 in Spelunky 2! Learn how to acquire key items like the Udjat Eye, Crown, Ankh, and Excalibur to reach hidden areas and unlock secret endings.
This page will heavily spoil several secrets. World 7 is the secret area beyond Tiamat. Here is the path you need to follow to get there, in short:
- Udjat Eye
- Crown or Hedjet
- Ankh
- Excalibur or Scepter
- Abzu or City of Gold
- Tablet of Destiny
- Ushabti
- Qilin
The path splits at Jungle/Volcana and again at Tide Pool/Temple, but any path can take you to world 7. In other words, the Crown and Hedjet have the same special effect in both Tide Pool and Temple.
There is an additional set of steps you can follow to travel beyond the boss of world 7. If you want to forego the secret ending and try for the incredibly long and difficult super secret ending, you'll need these two additional items:
- Hou Yi's Bow
- Arrow of Light
Acquiring the Udjat Eye
The Udjat Eye is always found on either 1-2 or 1-3, whichever stage Yang's Turkey Pen is not on. Look for the Golden Key and take it to the wooden structure with two ladders and a backroom entrance. Inside the backroom is the ornate chest you need to unlock for the Udjat Eye. Although not strictly required, the Udjat Eye is used to open a hidden path in world 2.
Acquiring the Crown
If you take the Volcana route, you will need to travel to Vlad's Castle. Use the Udjat Eye to activate the purple alien drill at the top of the level, and use it to descend to the red castle at the bottom of the level. You can also use alternative means like Bombs, a Mattock, or a Spikeball Trap to make this descent. The Crown is located at the very top of Vlad's Castle. The Crown is required to open a path in world 4.
Acquiring the Hedjet
If you take the Jungle route, you will need to find the Black Market. The Udjat Eye will flash and chirp when within about 10 tiles of the secret entrance to the Market. Use a Bomb or other means to access the door. Without the Udjat Eye, you can also locate the entrance with some amount of luck by looking for it from backroom areas. In the Market, the Hedjet can be found in a shop on the right side priced at $40000. The Hedjet is required to open a path in world 4.
Acquiring Hou Yi's Bow
The Moon Challenge is found in world 2, sometimes before the Castle/Market and sometimes after. Buy into the challenge and look for Hou Yi's Bow as you dig. It is always in a single block by itself, and it is always in the lower half of the room.
Once you have the bow, you'll have to leave it with Waddler in world 3. The entrance to his hideout is hidden behind a block, usually a moss-covered block, to the right of the ladder by Olmec. Waddler will save this item until later worlds so that you can keep your hands free.
Acquiring the Ankh
The Ankh can be found in the backroom of world 3. It is typically obtained by sending Olmec into the lava below and using one of the entrances there. It can be obtained through other means such as using a Teleporter from Waddler's room or by positioning Olmec below the backroom entrance in the upper right. The Ankh is used in world 4 in the process of reaching either Abzu or Duat.
Acquiring the Excalibur
If you take the Tide Pool path, you will probably want the Excalibur found in 4-2. It's found one floor below the level exit, stuck in a stone. You need either the Crown or Hedjet to pick it up.
Reaching Abzu
In 4-3, a hidden level exit can be uncovered behind the lava pool at the bottom of the level. To reach this exit, you will have to trigger a deadly lava trap, so be certain you now have the Ankh in your equipment bar.
Start by dropping your weapon and back item somewhere safe. Move quickly because you will need to traverse this level twice in three minutes. Find the pictured backroom entrance and descend to the bottom. The door here can only be used from this side. The other side takes you out below the lava pool. Moving the Golden Idol will trigger the cascade of Powder Boxes and drop the lava on your head. After being resurrected, grab your gear and look for the newly uncovered level exit. You may need a Rope to climb down to it. This exit leads to Abzu.
Surviving the lava trap is possible but very difficult. You can practice this from the world 3 shortcut. Using Rope stubs, which remain after being burned, you can hang below the platform. Bombing out the ground below can create enough space for the lava to settle below you. It usually takes about ten Bombs. You can also use a Teleporter to teleport upward through the lava.
Abzu
This boss level replaces 4-4 in the Tide Pool. Note that you start near the bottom of the level, close to the exit door. The boss awaits above, and you can hear her climbing around. There is no Ghost on this level.
The boss is Kingu, a giant turtle-like creature that climbs on the back wall. You will need to use Ropes, a Jetpack, or the backroom to reach her. A backroom entrance can be found below the level entrance, barely submerged underwater. Whatever method you use, Kingu has a platform on her back that you can jump to to fight her.
Kingu is invulnerable to damage until her shell is cracked open. The only way to break it open is with the Excalibur from 4-2 or with ten Bombs. The Bombs can be stuck with Paste or dropped from above if your timing is good. Once the crack is visible, any form of attack deals valid damage, except for stomping attacks. She only takes damage at the center scute on her shell. With the Excalibur, it takes an incredible 20 slices to defeat her.
Kingu has no attack of her own. When within 8 tiles, she spawns enemies out of her shell in groups, at an interval of 7 seconds. The enemies include:
- Jiangshi
- Jiangshi Assassin
- Octopy
Try to close in on her fast, so her platform isn't filling with enemies before you get there. Then position yourself where your attack will hit her shell and kill enemies as they drop in. Facing backwards is effective. On defeat, Kingu drops the Tablet of Destiny. Before leaving, don't miss
