VIII. Bargain

Guide to 'Bargain,' the final chapter of Return of the Obra Dinn. Uncover the fate of Dr. Evans and his companions, and bring closure to the Obra Dinn's story.

Alright, so after all that, you find yourself back in your study in London, a year after the whole Obra Dinn ordeal. It's 1808, and the first thing you notice is the fire crackling. You're sitting at a desk with your pen, ink, and a lamp. Pretty cozy, right? But don't get too comfortable, because there's a knock at the door. Since you're not sure who or what it is, it's best to just take a look around.

To your left, you'll see a bookcase by the window with some cool old game treasures like Scarab of Ra and Crystal Quest. Keep looking around, and you'll spot a grandfather clock and another bookcase. You'll hear another knock, and a housemaid tells you she's coming. Turn right from the desk, and you'll see a fireplace with candles, a nightstand, and a sofa. You'll overhear the housemaid talking to a delivery guy, and then a door closes with a thunderstorm outside. Just wait it out – footsteps are coming upstairs.

The door opens, and the housemaid says she has a package for you. After some rustling, she mentions it smells awful and suggests you open it outside. She leaves, telling you tea is in the kitchen, and slams the door shut. Now, you've got a package right in front of you. Go ahead and open it. Inside, you'll find a letter:

Chief Inspector,
I write to you with the unfortunate news that Dr. Evans has passed away. He succumbed to his illness shortly after receiving your package.
He was very pleased with your correspondence and asked that his gratitude be expressed by returning the book to you, along with the means to complete it.
As for the three of us that remain, the Obra Dinn is a distant memory and a dreadful chapter in our lives that we wish to forget.

So, Dr. Evans passed away peacefully. And there's something else in the package. First, check out the book on your right – it's the logbook. Dr. Evans left a note: "This tale belongs to you now. Please finish it." After you close the book, turn left to find a small package. Open it up, and you'll find... a monkey's paw? Sounds like Dr. Evans' monkey. The Obra Dinn has been sitting at the bottom of the sea since last year's storm, and it's time to give everyone closure. When you're ready, press the spacebar to bring out your pocketwatch, the Memento Mortem, and use it on the monkey's paw on the desk. It's time for the final memory trip.
