Guide to solving 'The Doom' chapter in Return of the Obra Dinn. Identify Martin Perrott, Emily Jackson, and Finley Dalton, and determine their fates.
Walkthrough
- 1Back in the present-day Obra Dinn, you'll find yourself in the port Passenger Cabin in the Captain's Quarters. Turn left to the bunk bed where Hoscut Witterel's skeleton lies. Approach it and use the Memento Mortem (press spacebar) to activate it.
- 2You will witness the fate of Mrs. Hoscut Witterel, who is crushed by a falling mast, seemingly wielded by a beast.
- 3From where she was struck, turn right and go aft to the man who was trying to help her. Zoom in on him and bring up the sketch (press Tab). His face is unblurred, indicating he is the man Mrs. Hoscut Witterel called "Martin". Identify him as Third Mate Martin Perrott (#4).
- 4Exit the sketch. From Perrott's position, go aft to the port entrance of the Passenger Cabin. Go past an unidentified man to find two women.
- 5Examine the woman in front, noting the ring on her left hand, indicating she is married. Zoom in, bring up the sketch, and identify her as Emily Jackson (#21; Passenger).
- 6Now, examine the woman behind Emily Jackson. She is not wearing a ring, indicating she is a virgin. Her face is also unblurred. Bring up the sketch and identify her as Miss Jane Bird (#22; Passenger).
- 7Exit the sketch. Turn around, go a bit fore, then turn towards the steering wheel. Look up to see a man being pulled up by a tentacle while holding onto a railing.
- 8Zoom in on this man and bring up the sketch. His profile is unblurred, identifying him as the helmsman from the "Justice at Sea" sketch. Identify him as Helmsman Finley Dalton (#17).
- 9The memory fades. The logbook will open to Chapter VII, revealing the mast breaking on Page 71 and the ship's location on Page 72. It will then skip to pp. 87-88, showing the situation on the Main Deck with ten people present.
- 10Click on Hoscut Witterel's profile. For her fate, select "crushed" and "beast/rigging" or "clubbed" and "beast". This will correctly solve three fates.
Tips
- Pay attention to details like wedding rings to help identify characters.
- Unblurred faces in the Memento Mortem scenes often indicate that the character can be identified immediately.
- The tutorial mentions that higher deduction ratings mean greater difficulty; prioritize lower-rated individuals when possible, but don't be afraid to ID clearly identifiable characters.
- Three fates correctly solved: Robert Witterel (Captain), William Hoscut (First Mate), and Abigail Hoscut Witterel (Passenger).
