Walkthrough
  1. 1
Knife: Always available by holding L, it does not take up an item slot. Use it on downed zombies or dogs. Essential for Chris early on to conserve ammo.
  2. 2
Handgun: The starting weapon, effective against zombies and dogs, holding 15 rounds per clip. In Rebirth mode, it can cause a zombie headshot (a shot that lands on the enemy's head, usually an instant kill). Useful for saving ammo for the Shotgun, but becomes less effective after the Guardhouse.
  3. 3
Shotgun: A primary weapon holding seven shells per reload. It can take down most enemies, with close-range headshots on zombies (1-2 hits) and effective against groups of dogs (2-5 hits). It takes 2-4 hits to kill Hunters, saving Magnum ammo. Useful in the lab area late in the game. Shotgun Shells are commonly found.
  4. 4
Magnum: Holds 6 rounds per clip. Excellent against most non-boss enemies, often killing them in 1 hit, though Hunters and Chimeras may require 2. Magnum Rounds are found more often later in the game. Recommended for the final part of the game.
  5. 5
Bazooka: Available only in Jill's scenario. Holds 6 rounds per reload, and you must empty it to switch ammo types.
  6. 6
Explosive Rounds: Default ammo with a gray lid. Good for weaker enemies but the least powerful Bazooka ammo. Commonly found in the mansion, then disappear.
  7. 7
Acid Rounds: Have a yellow lid. Effective against most bosses, including Yawn. Barry gifts these twice, and they are very powerful against living things. Use them wisely as they are scarce.
  8. 8
Flame Rounds: Have a red lid. Good against almost any enemy. Takes 3 shots for Plant 42 and 1 shot for the Black Tiger Spider. Hunters turn black and screech when hit by these.
  9. 9
Flamethrower: Found only in Chris's scenario. Has 240 ammo (9 seconds of fire). Used to unlock doors in the underground and burn webs on doors. In Rebirth mode, it unlocks a door to the kitchen from the mansion's basement. Can be used on the Black Tiger Spider.
  10. 10
Rocket Launcher: Found only at the very end of the game, if your supporting character survives. Kills any enemy in 1 hit, used against the Tyrant. Comes with 4 rockets. An unlimited ammo version can be unlocked.
Tips
  • Conserve handgun ammo early in the game by using the Knife on downed enemies.
  • The Shotgun is versatile and effective for most of the game.
  • Save Magnum rounds for tougher non-boss enemies or when ammo is scarce.
  • The Bazooka, especially with Acid or Flame Rounds, is powerful against bosses and specific enemies.
  • The Rocket Launcher is a one-hit kill weapon for the final boss.
