Walkthrough

    Shoot a portal anywhere and go through it.

    After exiting the portal, turn fully around and look up and to the right to find and shoot the Commentary Node.

    Turn right from the portal to see the chamberlock.

    Shoot a portal at the wall over there and go through to the orange portal to come out the other side.

    Turn right to see the chamberlock.

    After turning right, the Commentary Node is in the doorway of the chamberlock.

    Run into the elevator.

    You will enter Test Chamber 04 (TC04).

    Approach the panel to make it light up.

    Look towards the rest of the chamber, but before going through the doorway, look up and slightly left to shoot the Camera Shy off of the wall.

    Go past the button into the larger part of the test chamber.

    After jumping into the pit, look towards the center for the Commentary Node.
Tips
  • The first puzzle is designed to teach you that entrance and exit portals aren't tied to their colors.
  • When rendering a player's view through a portal, the game renders a separate image using a virtual camera that looks out of the opposite portal. Only what is visible to the limited field of view of the opposite portal is rendered.
  • The combination of portal-destroying fields (fizzlers) and elevators provide a clearly identifiable end-point for each test chamber and prevent players from portaling across level loads.
  • For training purposes in early puzzles, there is generally just one correct solution. The glass barrier in Test Chamber 04 was added to prevent players from bypassing the box puzzle by standing on the button.
