    Place a box on the large button outside the doorway. Shoot a portal on the far wall near the newly opened door and approach the ledge. Jump down onto the small ledge below, but wait until you land to shoot a portal at your feet.

    Go through the door. Shoot a portal at the lowest piston, then walk to the ledge above a large pit (not the water). Shoot a portal at the ground here, then jump down through it. As you exit the portal on the piston, aim for the next highest piston. Shoot the portal that was in the pit (not the one on the piston) onto it. You will fall through and shoot up from the higher piston.

    Continue this piston-jumping, alternating portals until you reach the fourth piston. Look back towards the area between the lowest piston and the pit, and up to see a wall slanted at a 45-degree angle. Shoot the portal opposite the one on the highest piston at it to be flung to a platform. Run through the doorway and into the chamberlock.

Least Steps Maps (LATT) Tip:

To reduce steps in metallic-floored chambers, crouch in mid-air. This allows for more space per jump, potentially using about 2/3 fewer steps.

Least Steps Test Chamber 13 (LS13)

Goal: 30 Steps | Gold: 10 Steps

  1. Look down the hallway and shoot a portal to the left, near where the button is (unseen). Shoot the other portal directly in front of the elevator. Take one step and jump into the portal. You should now have two steps.
  2. While ascending, shoot the portal beneath you anywhere. You will land without using steps. Shoot one portal at the wall behind the box and the other on the ground near you. Grab the box through the portal and place it on the button without moving. Turn and shoot a portal through the door so that when you look at the portal near you, you see the red button.
  3. Grab the box and aim to drop it near the side of the platform, not directly on the button. After it lands, shoot a portal at your feet (the one near you, not above the button). You will land, giving you three steps so far.
  4. Turn and face the lower piston. Shoot a portal above it at the white marker. Wait for the energy ball to leave the dispenser (or shoot it into the receptacle). Then, shoot a portal at the wall near you and drop the cube through it. If done correctly, it will land on the button and deflect the energy ball horizontally.
  5. Turn and shoot a portal through the newly opened door, onto the ground. Turn and face the lower piston again. Take one step and jump over the side of your current piston. You should now have five steps. While falling, shoot a portal where you would land.
  6. While ascending through the portal on the other side of the door, shoot a portal anywhere to land without using a step. Turn and face the energy grid. Shoot a portal as close to it as possible, and the other at your feet. While ascending through the one near the energy grid, shoot a portal above you to land without using a step.
  7. Turn and face the elevator. Run into it. You should have 9-10 steps and a gold rating.

Least Steps Test Chamber 14 (LS14)

Goal: 55 Steps | Gold: 10 Steps

  1. Shoot one portal at the far piston (near its base) and the other right near the elevator. Take one step and jump into it. You should now have two steps. While exiting the portal near the piston, shoot the portal underneath you (the one near the piston) anywhere. You will land without taking a step.
  2. While facing the piston, turn left and look at the ceiling near you (ensure it has ground beneath it). Shoot the other portal at your feet. While falling, shoot the portal that was on the ceiling (the one you just exited) where you would land. If done correctly, you will be propelled up next to the piston. Move towards the piston and land on it.
  3. Turn and carefully position yourself straight towards the elevator. Run into it. You should have 10 steps exactly, with a gold rating.

Least Steps Test Chamber 15 (LS15)

Goal: 75 Steps | Gold: 55 Steps

  1. Aim your first portal diagonally through the corridor ahead as far up as possible. Place the other directly in front of the elevator. Take one step and jump into the portal. You should now have 2 steps. Shoot the portal you exit from (the one by the barrier, not the elevator) elsewhere when you emerge to land without taking another step.
  2. Turn to face the door you would have exited from and shoot a portal at the pushed-out slab above it. Shoot the other at your feet. As you are falling, shoot the other portal where you would land.
