Complete Portal Part 11 walkthrough, including how to get the portal gun upgrade and solve the fling maneuver puzzle.
Walkthrough
- 1After heading up the stairs, you will find a Commentary Node floating in front of you, up a few more stairs near some windows.
- 2Look left to see a panel with four hazards you've encountered before.
- 3Shoot a portal on the wall, but do not go through it immediately. Wait for it to show a button and some ground before you walk through it, or else you will die.
- 4Press the button on the pedestal by pressing the use key.
- 5Quickly shoot a portal through the door on the opposite side of the room that was just opened.
- 6Wait for the orange portal to be shot at the back wall near you and then run through.
- 7Look slightly to the right to find a black mark where energy balls are hitting.
- 8Shoot a portal there and wait. It will eventually hit its receptacle and cause the scaffold near the center platform to move.
- 9Walk up to the blue portal and wait for it to show the scaffold coming towards you. When it approaches, jump to it.
- 10Run to the center and grab the orange part of the portal gun, which creates two linked portals at once.
- 11Press the new button ahead to cause a door in front of you to open.
- 12Shoot a portal through it and turn around.
- 13Shoot a portal in between the two grey bars on the wall that the scaffold approaches.
- 14Wait for the scaffold to make its way back to you, then jump on.
- 15When the scaffold gets close enough, jump through the portal.
- 16After landing, find the chamberlock and run into it.
- 17Head into the hallway. You can see the panel to the right, with four symbols you've seen before.
- 18While walking down the hallway, you will see a Commentary Node floating.
- 19Walk over and face the ledge. Look down and shoot a portal at the ground below.
- 20Now look up and shoot a portal at the slab of concrete above.
Tips
- The Commentary Node near the start explains that testers would leap blindly to their doom, so the moral is 'look before you leap.' The safe orange portal was out of view from the balcony, forcing players to peer through a portal to see it, training remote-viewing capabilities.
- Originally, a weighted button was used to open a far door, but testers associated boxes with buttons and got stuck searching for one. The big button was changed to a pedestal-mounted push button. Adding a ticking timer sound when the door opened cued players that the puzzle expected them to act during that time.
- The room where you get the dual-portal upgrade is designed to build anticipation for the fully powered portal gun. The puzzle path brings you in a circle around the device, so it's virtually always in sight until you grab it.
- The computer states that the Device is now more valuable than the organs and combined incomes of everyone in the subject hometown.
- The puzzle after acquiring the full powered portal device is designed to reintroduce the fling maneuver.
