New Silkbind Attack: Strongarm Stance
Strongarm Stance is a new counter technique for the Great Sword. It uses ironsilk to reinforce the user's arms and weapon, allowing them to take reduced damage from monster attacks and retaliate. While the timing can be challenging, players familiar with other weapon counters should adapt quickly. This skill costs two Wirebugs but recovers quickly.
If used while charging, Strongarm Stance allows for a parry, followed by a Charged Slash Combo by pressing the overhead slash button after a successful parry. Note that not all monster attacks can be countered with this skill.
How to unlock Strongarm Stance
To unlock Strongarm Stance, you must first complete the MR3★ Urgent Quest “Ice Wolf, Red Moon” to reach Master Rank 4. After reaching MR4, speak with Master Utsushi in the Kamura Gathering Hub to unlock the second batch of Switch Skills, including Strongarm Stance.
New Switch Skill: Surge Slash Combo
The Surge Slash Combo offers a significant shift from the Great Sword's typical slow, high-damage attacks to a faster, multi-hit combo style. This combo consists of three hits and can be chained into a Level 2 Charge Slash.
How to unlock Surge Slash Combo
This skill can be learned early in the expansion. First, defeat the Daimyo Hermitaur from the quest given by Rondine. This quest allows access to Elgado, where you will speak with Master Arlow and then Master Utsushi. Master Utsushi will grant you the first set of new Switch Skills, including the Surge Slash Combo.
New Switch Skill: Backslide
Backslide is a new evasive maneuver that allows players to maintain their charge level during charged attacks or continue Surge Slash combos while evading. The direction of the evade can be fine-tuned using the movement stick.
How to unlock Backslide
Similar to Strongarm Stance, Backslide is unlocked after completing the MR3★ Urgent Quest “Ice Wolf, Red Moon” and reaching Master Rank 4. Speak with Master Utsushi in the Kamura Gathering Hub to obtain this skill as part of the second batch of Switch Skills.
Switch Skill Swap
While not a new skill itself, Switch Skill Swap is a new system that revolutionizes how Switch Skills are used. It allows players to change their equipped skills mid-battle. Two scrolls, red and blue, can be customized at an Item Box in the hub or during a quest with favorite skills.
The Swap Evade is a feature of this system, enabling evasion in any direction by pressing the roll button immediately after swapping sets.
