Master Gran Turismo 7's multiplayer! Learn about Lobbies, Sport Mode races, driver ratings, and championship formats to dominate online.
Gran Turismo 7 continues the legacy of strong online multiplayer established by Gran Turismo Sport. Access to most online modes requires a PlayStation Plus subscription.
Lobby
Lobbies offer a wide variety of racing experiences, from serious to casual. You can join existing lobbies or create your own with customizable settings. Up to 16 players can participate in a single lobby. Available settings include performance point limits, tire rules (including mandated use of multiple compounds), pre-race qualifying sessions, and automatic race starts. A potential drawback is the difficulty in finding an active lobby that matches your desired experience, and there's no guarantee others will join a lobby you create.
Sport Mode
Sport Mode is a ranked multiplayer system featuring daily (weekly) races and multi-round championships. The game attempts to match you with players of similar Driver Rating (DR) and Sportsmanship Rating (SR). You begin with an E DR and B SR. Improving your SR by avoiding contact with other players leads to cleaner lobbies. To advance your DR, you typically need to finish in the top half of the field after completing an initial 5 races to reach D rating.
Daily races consist of Race A and Race B, which are sprint events held at 20-minute intervals, and Race C, a longer race held every half hour. Race A is often unranked, meaning your DR is unaffected, though SR can still change. Race C may require a pit stop depending on fuel and tire wear settings. Grid positions in all daily races are determined by your qualifying time trial performance.
Championship races are less frequent. Since 2023, annual World Series online qualifiers occur, with exhibition seasons sometimes held outside these events. The Nations Cup is a driver's championship with one-make or balanced car races. The Manufacturers Cup involves representing a single brand in Group 3 and 4 races. A past Toyota-focused cup has been discontinued.
Your DR determines your league in championship seasons:
| Rating | League |
|---|---|
| A+ | GT1 |
| A | GT1 |
| B | GT2 |
| C | GT3 |
| D | GT3 |
| E | GT3 |
Only GT1 league players can qualify for World Series live events, but all leagues offer in-game cash rewards. Seasons typically consist of 6 rounds for online qualifiers and 4-6 rounds for exhibitions. Championship races can be lengthy, up to 45+ minutes, with an in-lobby qualifying session to set the grid.
Season points are awarded based on lobby strength (average DR / 205), finishing position (1st place gets 100% of base score, decreasing to 37.5% for 16th), and only your last race score counts if you compete multiple times in a round.
Sport Mode also includes Lap Time Challenges, accessible without PS Plus, which offer a way to earn in-game currency. These challenges typically last two weeks, with rewards for times within 3% of the world record. Special challenges may serve as qualifiers for esports events or offer real-life incentives.
