Learn how to earn Renown in Fire Emblem: Three Houses, unlock powerful Saint Statue bonuses, and understand what carries over to New Game Plus (NG+).

Renown is a measure of your fame gained from completing quests and battles (Story, Paralogues and auxiliary). The amount gained depends on the quest and battle. You will primarily use this for making your life easier with saint statues and for NG+ carry overs.

Renown carries over between playthroughs. The amount you finish a playthrough with will carry over. When you complete a playthrough on any difficulty, you get bonus renown in your NG+ depending on the last playthrough's difficulty: 3000 for Normal and 6000 for Hard. We can assume it gets higher on Maddening.

You also get 10000 as DLC supplies for completing the Cindered Shadows Side story DLC.

As of a recent update, you will get 10000 bonus renown for each playthrough you have completed. You will receive this bonus at the start of each NG+, and it stacks. For example, if you have completed three playthroughs, you will get 30000 for NG+ on your 4th. This caps out at 50000.

In the cathedral are the saint statues. Here you can pay renown to restore the statues and receive many bonuses. The full list is below. You need 10000 renown per statue. The skill boosts are a boost to skill experience gained in instructing.

The journal referred to is not in the menu but the one found on the desk in your personal quarters during exploration. This Journal in NG+ allows you to unlock other carry overs from your previous playthroughs. However, these cost Renown.

Using the Journal, you can increase your professor rank to as high as you had unlocked it on a previous playthrough. (If you had it at A+ in the first playthrough but only B in a second, you can still increase it to A+). Each rank costs 500 renown, so you will need 4500 renown maximum to bring it up to A+ from E.

D+1500
C2000
C+2500
B3000

You can also increase the support ranks of allies back to what they were or slightly lower. Each Support rank costs 400 renown, so bringing one character from No support to A is 1200 renown (or 1600 for S). You can only do this for one character at a time.

You can also regain your skill ranks. However, to increase a skill to a higher rank requires 500 renown. So, bringing up a skill to A or higher will cost around 4500 or 5000 renown, depending on the skill. You can only do this for one skill at a time.

You can also use 500 renown to regain abilities or combat arts you earned from mastering classes in a previous playthrough.

Last but not least, you will be able to buy crest items here using renown. You will have already gotten some depending on which route you completed last time. Crest items are basically items that give the unit holding them a crest ability with a lower activation rate compared to a minor crest owner. However, Crest items will allow you to share the Hero's Relics around.
