Welcome to Hope County, 17 years after the bombs fell. In Far Cry New Dawn, you'll be fighting for survival in a vibrant, post-apocalyptic world. As a survivor of the initial collapse, you'll explore the New World, gather resources, craft powerful weapons, and liberate outposts from the Highwaymen, led by the ruthless Twins. It's a wild ride of open-world exploration and first-person combat.
This guide is here to help you master every aspect of New Dawn. We'll cover everything from the basic controls and resource management to taking on challenging stronghold assaults and finally defeating the dangerous Twins. Whether you're aiming for a Gold Medal on every outpost or just trying to survive, we've got you covered.
Game Basics
Learn the essential game mechanics of Far Cry New Dawn, including Prosperity upgrades, ethanol acquisition, specialist recruitment, and resource management for survival.
Prosperity is your Homebase, a settlement struggling against the Highwaymen in Hope County. To survive, Prosperity must be upgraded using ethanol, essential for its eight facilities. Ethanol is primarily earned by liberating outposts, but hijacking tanker trucks and raiding enemy supply drops also provide significant amounts. Supply planes making drops can yield substantial ethanol if you explore thoroughly.
Specialists must be recruited to bolster defenses. Three of the five Specialists—Bean, Selene, and Grace Armstrong—are available early in Hope County. Prosperity's initial upgrade requires recruiting two Specialists, acquiring enough ethanol for three facility upgrades, and rescuing Thomas Rush. Recommendations for these initial upgrades and specialist recruitment are in **Section 4: Breakout**. The second Prosperity upgrade needs the remaining three Specialists and upgrades to nine additional facilities. Prosperity also serves as a fast travel station.
Facility upgrades depend entirely on ethanol. Liberating a level one outpost yields 100 ethanol and 5 carbon fiber. Taking it undetected grants an additional 50 ethanol, and doing so without triggering an alarm adds 25 ethanol. Scavenging a level one outpost earns an extra 50 ethanol, enabling level 2 enemies to occupy it. This disables fast travel and increases alarm difficulty and garrison size. The reward for taking a level 2 outpost increases to 200 ethanol and 15 carbon fiber. Undetected captures yield 100 additional ethanol, and no-alarm captures yield 50 ethanol. Scavenging a level 2 outpost earns 100 more ethanol, but enemies are tougher, and alarms are randomized. Taking one yields 300 ethanol base, with 150 additional for undetected and 75 for no-alarm captures. Level 3 outposts can be scavenged repeatedly for 150 ethanol.
Hijacking an enemy ethanol tanker earns 75 ethanol. Kill the driver and escort, then drive the truck to a liberated outpost or Prosperity without dying. Raiding Highwaymen supply drops, marked by yellow smoke and a plane sound, yields 30-40 ethanol and other resources. Beware of Highwaymen near these caches.
Resources include weapons, ammo, components, gears, duct tape, springs, copper, titanium, and crafting plants. They are found in the environment, on corpses, in locations, from hunting wildlife, foraging plants, and fishing. Resources are also in stashes (Section 23: Treasure Hunts), hijacked supply trucks, from looting scavengers, and stolen enemy supply drops.
Seven Expeditions outside Hope County are vital for resources, especially circuit boards for high-end weaponry and titanium. Expeditions have 3 difficulty levels, with the highest being repeatable.
Carbon fiber is essential for high-end weaponry and is earned with ethanol by liberating outposts. Timber, a Guns for Hire, can be rescued during the mission Man Eat Dog World. Timber highlights resources after fifteen kills.
Progression starts with Rank 1 weapons from victims, craftable at the Workbench with sufficient resources. Rank 2 weapons require 150 ethanol to upgrade the Workbench. This ethanol can be earned from outposts or supply drops. Hijacking fuel tankers provides 75 ethanol.

Crawling from the Wreckage.
Far Cry New Dawn: Crawling from the Wreckage walkthrough. Learn how to survive the train crash, escape the Highwaymen, and reach the river with Thomas Rush.
- 1After the train wreck, Thomas Rush and Garrett Barnes pull you out. Rush gives you a combat knife. Your immediate task is to escort Rush and Barnes out of the carnage.
- 2Turn back to search the train car before following Rush. Read the memo and grab the loot, including a Medkit.
- 3Exit the car, jump down, and proceed along the railroad track. Pause to let flames clear before entering the train car to the left of the track.
- 4Read Rush's Journal, which describes his plan to help build Prosperity.
- 5Take the loot, exit the car, survey the area, jump down onto the roof of the next car, then to the ground. Advance through the wreckage to find the armory car.
- 6Take the club in the car and proceed, staying to the left, to enter the next car. Revive the survivor, take the Medkit, and raid the car for a handgun.
- 7Exit the car and move silently toward the hostile abusing a young woman. Use brush for cover and perform a takedown when he faces away. Raid the corpse and release the captive.
- 8Advance, passing under the bridge, and enter the dimly lit car. Silently dispatch the Highwaymen on the far end of the car. Loot the car, exchanging your club for the pipe.
- 9Exit the car and stay low on the platform. Use your handgun to tag hostiles on the left, right, and below the platform. Drop down and perform a takedown from above on the hostile below the car.
- 10To the right, a hostile is painting the Highwaymen's logo on a car. Stalk and silently kill her.
- 11Reverse course and deal with three additional Highwaymen. Use takedowns if operating silently, or your handgun if detected.
- 12The last Highwayman will be attempting to open the armory car. Enter the armory car to obtain a sniper rifle or an assault rifle.
- 13Your objective is to reach the river with Rush as quickly as possible. Avoid engaging Highwaymen on the bridge and in vehicles.
- 14When the marker appears, clear anyone in your way and ride the zipline down the hillside toward the marker. Sprint for the marker to avoid incoming enemy vehicles or an unnecessary firefight.
- 15At the river, Mickey and Lou confront you. Barnes reveals Rush is the problem solver they seek. Rush breaks free and charges into them, allowing you to escape by being shoved over the bluff into the river by Rush.
- Proceeding stealthily is highly advised as the enemy is better armed. Use the handgun only if absolutely necessary.
- If you don't get a handgun early, you'll find another as you advance.
- If you have a throwing knife, use it to silently dispatch the Highwayman in the dimly lit car.
- Be aware that there are five hostiles in the area beyond the car with the pipe.
- If you linger at the river, more Highwaymen will arrive in vehicles. Getting to the marker is the best option since you are undergunned and outnumbered.
- Escape from the Highwaymen.
- Thomas Rush is captured by Mickey and Lou.
- You are separated from Rush and Barnes.
