Starting Zones & First Quests

Start your EverQuest II journey in tailored zones. This guide covers race-specific starting areas like Greater Faydark and introductory quests.

Upon creating your character, you'll be transported to one of the starting zones, which vary depending on your chosen race and alignment (Good, Evil, or Neutral). These zones are designed to introduce you to the game's mechanics through a series of introductory quests.

Good-Aligned Starting Zones:

  • Greater Faydark (Kelethin): For Fae and Wood Elves. Focuses on nature and the city of Kelethin.
  • Antonica (Qeynos Capitol District): For Humans, High Elves, Half Elves, and Kerra. Centered around the grand city of Qeynos.

Evil-Aligned Starting Zones:

  • Darklight Wood (Neriak): For Arasai and Dark Elves. A dark, foreboding forest leading to the city of Neriak.
  • The Commonlands (Freeport): For Ogres, Trolls, and Ratonga. A harsh, open plain surrounding the city of Freeport.

Neutral Starting Zones:

  • Timorous Deep: For Iksar, Sarnak, and Frogloks. A tropical island chain.
  • Marauder's Mire: For Gnomes and Dwarves. A swampy, industrial area.
  • Frostfang Sea: For Barbarians. A frozen, mountainous region.

Your first quests will typically involve speaking to a quest giver (indicated by a glowing scroll icon above their head), collecting items, killing specific creatures, or exploring nearby areas. Pay close attention to the quest text, as it often provides lore and hints. The compass and minimap will display quest objectives as glowing circles or arrows, guiding you to your next task. Completing these early quests will grant you experience points, coin, and often new equipment, helping you level up and prepare for more challenging adventures.

Don't hesitate to explore your starting zone thoroughly. You'll find various NPCs, vendors, and points of interest. These early zones are also excellent places to practice your combat rotations and get a feel for your character's abilities in a relatively safe environment.
