Learn how to defeat Hurstwine, the bandit leader in Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising. This guide covers his attacks, weaknesses, and strategies for this mandatory boss fight.

Alright, so you've made it to Hurstwine, the big bad bandit leader! He's a mandatory boss you'll find in the Runebarrows - Depths, right before the final boss of the main story. Don't worry, he's not too bad once you know what to expect.

Stats / Weaknesses:

  • Hurstwine is the leader of the bandits you've been fighting.
  • He starts with three bandits and can summon more at any time. A red line on your screen means reinforcements are coming.

Phases:

  1. Phase 1: Initial Encounter
Hurstwine starts with three bandits. Focus your attacks on Hurstwine. If you see the red line, more bandits are coming, but don't stress too much unless they're actively bothering you.
  2. Phase 2: Reinforcements Arrive
Hurstwine can summon more bandits throughout the fight. These can sometimes be taken out incidentally during Link Attacks with the main bandits.

Strategy:

  • Focus Fire: Your main goal is Hurstwine. The extra bandits are a distraction. If you can quickly dispatch them without taking too much damage, go for it, but otherwise, let them be. They might get caught in Link Attacks anyway.
  • Dodge the Dash: Hurstwine has a dash attack where he tries to stab you. Keep an eye out and be ready to dodge.
  • Watch the Shockwave: He'll slam his sword into the ground, creating a shockwave that travels a good distance. This is fairly easy to dodge if you're not right on top of him.
  • Dagger Spin and Throw: He spins a dagger and can throw it at your location. Be aware of this and reposition if needed.
  • Fan Daggers: This is probably his most dangerous move. Hurstwine jumps into the air and throws daggers in a wide fan pattern. If you're close to him, you can actually dash *towards* him to easily avoid this attack. It sounds counter-intuitive, but it works!
  • Patience is Key: Most of his attacks, outside of the dash and shockwave, are pretty slow and telegraphed. Learn the patterns, and you'll be fine.

Just keep chipping away at Hurstwine, manage the adds when you have to, and you'll take him down in no time!
