Alright, so you need to grab an Ebony Pelt for one of the residents, huh? Don't worry, it's not too tricky once you know where to look. Since it's a pelt, it's a safe bet it comes from some kind of beast, and you'd be right!

The Ebony Pelt drops from the Wolf mini-boss you'll find in Hellhound Lake. You might remember this guy from the 'An Armorer With an Eye for Fashion' quest when you were hunting for Paint. He's a tough one, but we've got a plan.

Strategy:

• Since the Wolf is super fast, it's best to get your attack charged up before you even see it. Garoo's charged attack has a great range, so as soon as the Wolf pops out, unleash it. This should stagger him.
• Once the Wolf is down, quickly switch to CJ and perform a Link Attack. This combo is usually enough to finish him off.
• If Garoo's slow movement is giving you trouble, stick with CJ. He's much more nimble and can keep up with the Wolf's speed better.

If you don't get the drop:

No luck on the first try? No sweat. Just head back to the Great Forest and fast-travel to Hellhound Lake again. The Wolf should respawn, and you can try your luck once more. Just keep at it!
