Learn about Normal Gems in Diablo Immortal! Discover their types, socket colors, upgrade methods, and how they differ from Legendary Gems to boost your character's stats.

Alright, let's talk about Normal Gems in Diablo Immortal. You'll probably get your first Legendary Gem super early in the game, like during the Elder Rift tutorial. But don't sleep on Normal Gems! You'll get your first taste of those after finishing the 'Loyalty's Price' quest, which hooks you up with three Tourmaline gems. After that, you can snag more through regular gameplay.

Think of Normal Gems like the classic gems from Diablo 2. They give you straightforward, solid buffs to a single stat, and they get way better when you upgrade them. The main way to upgrade them is by combining three of the same type. They aren't as flashy as Legendary Gems, and they won't make or break your character on their own, but they're definitely worth using!

Important Note: Normal Gems need to go into the right colored sockets on your Secondary Gear. Don't forget that!

Normal Gem Types and Socket Colors

Unlike Legendary Gems where you can only equip one of each type, you can stack multiple Normal Gems. There are six types of Normal Gems, split into three color pairs:

  • Blue Sockets: Aquamarine, Sapphire
  • Red Sockets: Ruby, Tourmaline
  • Yellow Sockets: Citrine, Topaz

Your Secondary Gear – that's your amulets, rings, gloves, belt, and boots – will have these color-coded sockets. So, blue gems only fit in blue slots, red in red, and yellow in yellow. The good news is that your gear can have multiple sockets, so you can mix and match to get a good variety of buffs even with the color restrictions.

Normal Gem Effects

Here's a quick look at what each Normal Gem does at Rank 1 and Rank 10:

Normal GemEffect
AquamarineArmor +8 to +1,256
CitrinePotency +8 to +1,256
RubyLife +80 to +4,800
SapphireArmor Penetration +8 to +1,256
TopazAll Resistances + 8 to +1,256
TourmalineDamage +8 to + 480

How to Get Normal Gems

You can get your hands on Normal Gems through a few different activities:

  • Clear Hidden Lair events.
  • Get them as random rewards from completing Bounties.
  • Buy them from the Market in Westmarch.

These are generally easier on your wallet than Legendary Gems. You can earn them by just playing the game – knock out your daily Bounties, and keep an eye out for Hidden Lair events. Bounties are limited each day, and Hidden Lairs pop up randomly, so you can't farm them non-stop like you might with Legendary Gems. But hey, they're usually not locked behind a paywall.

If you've got some extra Gold, you can also snag Normal Gems from the Market in Westmarch, just like Legendary Gems.

How to Upgrade Normal Gems

This is where Normal Gems feel like a throwback to Diablo 2. To upgrade them, you simply combine three of the exact same type and rank. For example, three Rank 1 Tourmaline gems will combine into one Rank 2 Tourmaline gem. Keep doing this, and three Rank 2s become a Rank 3, and so on. This works smoothly all the way up to Rank 6.

Heads up: After Rank 6, you'll need to start using Echo Crystals along with the three gems to upgrade them further. Maxing out Normal Gems will take a good chunk of time, but their power really ramps up. By Rank 8, they're already at half their maximum potential at Rank 10, so keep at it!
