Learn about Legendary Gems in Diablo Immortal, including their types, star counts (1-star, 2-star, 5-star), how to obtain them via Elder Rifts, the Market, and crafting, and how to upgrade them.

In Diablo Immortal, Gems are divided into two categories: Legendary Gems and Normal Gems. You'll typically acquire your first Legendary Gem during the main questline through the Elder Rift tutorial, specifically during the objectives "Legends of Eld" and "Braving the Rift."

Legendary Gems, similar to legendary-grade equipment, come with fixed modifiers that affect various stats and skills. Each Legendary Gem has unique effects; for instance, a Lightning Core will always have the same modifiers, distinct from a Zod Stone. Beyond their specific effects, Legendary Gems generally boost your Resonance score (which enhances all Attributes) and your Combat Rating, making them crucial additions to your gear regardless of your character class or build.

Legendary Gems can be socketed into your Primary Gear, which includes helmets, chest armor, shoulders, legs, and both your main-hand and off-hand weapons. Importantly, you can only equip one of each specific type of Legendary Gem at a time.

Differences Between 1-Star, 2-Star and 5-Star Legendary Gems

Legendary Gems are categorized by their "Star Count," indicated beneath the gem's name. This Star Count signifies the gem's rarity and power. 1-Star gems are the most common and least powerful in terms of Resonance and Combat Rating. 2-Star gems are a step up, while 5-Star gems are among the rarest and most potent items in the game.

For 1-Star and 2-Star gems, their type dictates their Star Count; a Zod Stone is always a 1-Star gem, and a Lightning Core is always a 2-Star gem. 5-Star gems, however, can have between 2 and 5 Stars unlocked. The more Stars unlocked on a 5-Star gem, the greater its Resonance and Combat Rating bonuses will be.

How to Get Legendary Gems

Legendary Gems can be obtained through several methods, regardless of their Star Count:

  • Completing Elder Rifts
  • Purchasing them from the Market in Westmarch
  • Crafting at a Jeweler

5-Star Legendary Gems are significantly rarer than their 1-Star and 2-Star counterparts. While extensive grinding can eventually yield desired gems, acquiring 5-Star Legendary Gems often involves spending money.

Getting Legendary Gems from Elder Rifts

Elder Rifts can be opened using Rare or Legendary Crests. Using Legendary Crests increases your chances of obtaining better Legendary Gems upon completion. Legendary Crests can be purchased from the Crest Merchant in Westmarch using premium currency. Completing Elder Rifts also rewards Runes, which can be used in other ways to obtain Legendary Gems.

Getting Legendary Gems from the Market

The Market in Westmarch functions similarly to an auction house, where players can sell items for premium currency. Here, you might find gear, including 5-Star Legendary Gems. Note that only Legendary Gems found in Elder Rifts opened with Eternal Legendary Crests can be listed on the Market. This means only Legendary Gems acquired through spending premium currency at the Crest Merchant can be resold.

Crafting Legendary Gems

Visit a Jeweler and select the "Craft" option to access various formulas for creating Legendary Gems. These formulas require Runes, and some also demand premium currency. Different Runes are needed to craft specific Legendary Gems. While specific 1-Star and 2-Star gems can be crafted directly, obtaining a chance at 5-Star gems requires using the "Random Legendary Gem" formula.

How to Upgrade Legendary Gems

Legendary Gems can be upgraded (ranked up) by cannibalizing other Legendary Gems. This process yields Gem Power, the amount of which depends on the Star Count of the consumed gem. During early ranks, the specific type of Legendary Gem consumed does not matter, and any excess Gem Power is stored as Gem Fragments (1 Gem Fragment = 1 Gem Power). As a Legendary Gem's rank and Star Count increase, it requires more Gem Power to upgrade. Eventually, it will necessitate the sacrifice of duplicate Legendary Gems of the same type to craft. For example, a Lightning Core Legendary Gem will require another Lightning Core Legendary Gem to upgrade. Since you cannot equip multiple copies of the same Legendary Gem type, this requirement is less burdensome than it might initially seem.
