Your guide to beating Vergil in Devil May Cry 5's Main Mission 19. Learn his attack patterns, Devil Trigger, and strategies to survive this tough boss fight.

Alright, you've made it to the penultimate mission, Main Mission 19. This is it – the big one, Dante versus Vergil, one-on-one. This is easily the toughest fight in the game, so buckle up. Vergil is incredibly fast, agile, and hits like a truck. Forget about trying to hang back and snipe him with ranged weapons; he'll just deflect everything. You need to get up close and personal, learn his moves, and find those tiny windows to strike back.

Walkthrough:

  1. TL;DR: This is the hardest boss fight. Vergil deflects most ranged attacks and has brief openings. Stick with Trickster style for dodging. Learn his combos and counter-attack when you see openings. Devil Trigger amps up his attacks significantly.
  2. Phase 1: Human Form
    • When Vergil plants his foot back and grabs his sword hilt, he's about to do something. He'll either dash forward with a flurry of slashes, or he'll launch a ranged attack that looks like a sphere of sword slashes. Both are good opportunities to dodge and then hit him with a quick combo.
    • If you keep your distance, he'll fire off four projectiles in a row. Just dash side-to-side to avoid these.
    • He also has a dash-in attack where he tries a combo with his sheathed sword, about four to five hits. Keep the pressure on after dodging his other moves, and you'll start chipping away at his health.
  3. Phase 2: Devil Trigger Activated
    • Once Vergil's health is down to about 60-70%, he'll enter Devil Trigger. This is where things get serious.
    • His ranged flurry attack now comes out three times instead of once.
    • He can also appear above you and slam his sword down twice.
    • Remember those projectiles from before? He can now summon eight of them around him, firing them one at a time in quick succession.
    • His dash-in and flurry attack seems faster in Devil Trigger.
    • The sheathed sword combo is still in his arsenal, so stay sharp.
    • Warning: When he charges up in Devil Trigger, he's about to fly out of the arena and charge straight at you. This attack hits incredibly hard, even on easier difficulties. Dodging it with Trickster can be tricky due to its homing properties, but timing your own Devil Trigger can sometimes interrupt him.
    • After he reverts from Devil Trigger, the fight gets even tougher. The energy balls from the
