Master the terrifying bosses of Dead Space! This guide breaks down strategies for Hunter, Leviathan, Slug, Hive Mind, and more. Learn weak points and attack patterns.

Alright, let's talk about the big scary things you'll be facing in Dead Space. These aren't your average grunts; these bosses will really test your skills and your ammo supply. Don't worry, though – with the right approach, you can take them all down. Here's the lowdown on each major threat.

Hunter 1

This first encounter with the Hunter is more about survival and understanding its mechanics. You'll mostly be dealing with Lurkers, so take them out first. Once the doors unlock, the main event is the Hunter itself. Use Stasis on the big guy in the middle chamber. While it's frozen, quickly run to the nearby doors and interact with the computer terminal on the window. This will send the Hunter away, ending the encounter.

Leviathan

The Leviathan is a grotesque, multi-tentacled horror. Your main goal is to shoot away its tentacles. Once you're facing its gaping maw, you'll need to use your Kinesis module. Grab the first and third bombs you see, then shoot them at the second and fourth bombs, respectively. After that, you'll need to shoot the fifth bomb back into the Leviathan's mouth. You can damage the glowing bulb inside its mouth at any time, especially when it's roaring. Keep an eye out for its swipes; you can jump to avoid them. Also, remember to aim for the yellow weak spots on its arms.

Slug

This fight shifts gears into an arcade-style sequence using the ADS cannon. Your objective is to hit the yellow weak points on the tentacles to stop the Slug from hurling debris at you. Be careful not to fire both turrets at once, as this will cause them to overheat. However, you can hold down one side for a good amount of time without issue.

Hunter 2

This rematch with the Hunter is a bit tougher. Your strategy here is to try and trap the Hunter in the control room or keep it frozen with Stasis. While it's incapacitated, focus on taking out the six or so Twitchers that appear. Once they're dealt with, lure the Hunter behind the ship, freeze it in the bridge area behind the engine, and then run up to it and blast away. Repeat this process until it's defeated.

Hive Mind

This boss looks intimidating, but it's manageable if you brought plenty of Plasma Energy. When the Hive Mind roars, aim for the glowing bulbs inside its mouth. After it pulls you up, you'll have a short window to shoot the bulbs on its underside while running back and forth to avoid its arm slams. Just keep moving side to side to dodge those attacks. Once the mouth bulbs are destroyed, you'll have only a few seconds to target the remaining bulbs on its underside.
