26) Manipulating the RNG

Learn how to manipulate the pseudo-random number generator in Valkyrie Profile to achieve max stats on level up and guarantee all chests in the Cave of Oblivion.

Valkyrie Profile uses a pseudo-random number generator (RNG) that can be manipulated to achieve desired outcomes. Actions like opening menus or swinging your sword can influence the results. For these tricks, you will need two save files: one on the World Map and one within a dungeon. Ensure characters in the dungeon save do not have negative status effects and that there are no screen effects like snow or rain. Avoid saving in Salerno Academy, Forest of Spirits, Arianrod Labyrinth, and the first save point in Tombs of Amenti.

Trick 1: Max Stats at Level Up

This trick ensures a character gains the maximum possible STR, AGL, DEX, and INT upon leveling up.

• Method 1 (General):
  • Reset the game.
  • Load a World Map save.
  • Open and close the menu twice.
  • Load a dungeon save with four non-mages in the party.
  • Swing your sword 3 times.
  • Open the menu and use the Experience Orb to level the character once.
• Method 2 (World Map Level Up):
  • Load a World Map save.
  • Open and close the menu once.
  • Load a dungeon save with X non-mages (where X is the number of non-mages you plan to have in the party).
  • Swing your sword 7-X times.
  • Load your World Map save.
  • Open the menu and use the Experience Orb to level the character once.

Trick 2: All Chests in Cave of Oblivion

This method forces all potential treasure chests to appear in the Cave of Oblivion. Note that the small C-shaped cave contains no treasure. The type of chest will be revealed upon entering the cave.

• For Japanese and PSP versions:
  • Type 2 Chests:
    • Reset the game.
    • Load a dungeon save with one non-mage in the party.
    • Load the World Map save and enter the Cave.
  • Type 3 Chests:
    • Reset the game.
    • Load a dungeon save with two non-mages in the party.
    • Load the World Map save and enter the Cave.
  • Type 4 Chests:
    • Reset the game.
    • Load the World Map save.
    • Open and close the menu 5 times.
    • Enter the Cave.
• For North American PSX version:
  • Type 2 Chests:
    • Reset the game.

    • Load the World Map save.
    • Open and close the menu 3 times.
    • Enter the Cave.
  • Type 3 Chests:
    • Reset the game.
