How to Beat Moder, The Dragon

Learn the best strategies and tips to overcome Moder, the formidable dragon boss in Valheim. Prepare for the fight with the right gear and tactics to claim victory.

Stats / Weaknesses:

• Weaknesses: Frost, Pierce
• Resistances: Fire
• Immune to: Poison, Frost (self-inflicted)
• Drops: Moder's Trophy, 5 Dragon Tears

Phases:

1. Phase 1: Grounded Combat Moder will land and attack with claws and tail swipes. Dodge these and attack her flanks.
2. Phase 2: Aerial Assault Moder takes to the sky, raining down ice shards and ice breath. Use cover and ranged attacks.
3. Phase 3: Combined Assault Moder will alternate between grounded and aerial attacks, becoming more aggressive. Maintain mobility and focus fire.

Strategy:

• Gear Up: Craft a good bow (e.g., Draugr Fang) and plenty of arrows (Frost Arrows are effective). A shield and piercing weapon (like a spear or sword) are good for when she lands. Wear armor that provides good physical protection.
• Potions: Bring plenty of Fire Resistance Mead to negate her fire breath damage. Stamina and Health meads are also recommended.
• Positioning: Stay mobile. Use the terrain for cover against her aerial attacks. When she lands, try to attack her from the sides or rear to avoid her frontal attacks.
• Focus Fire: When she is grounded, unload as many arrows as possible or engage with melee weapons. When she takes flight, focus on dodging and using ranged attacks when safe.
• Watch for Ice: Her ice breath and ice shard attacks can freeze you. Keep moving to avoid them.
• Summoning: You will need to offer 3 Dragon Eggs at her summoning altar in the Mountains biome.
