Navigate the City of Vilcabama in Tomb Raider I•II•III Remastered. This guide covers all pickups, enemies, secrets, and trophy opportunities, including the 'Dances With Wolves' and 'The Apex Predator' challenges.
This level is generally easy, with the main challenges concentrated at the beginning. It's possible to finish with full health, but 90% is perfectly acceptable. The level features 3 Secrets, 13 pickups, 29 kills, 14 breakaway tiles, and awards 3 Trophies.
New Game+ Notes:
- The level has 2 Save Crystals, both needed early.
- Wolves are more durable; expect to lose half health fighting the initial 4.
- Strive to complete the level using only pistols to conserve ammo.
- Avoiding the bear near the central pool saves health, though a pickup is missed.
Trophy Alert -- Dances With Wolves: You can earn a Trophy by luring all 11 wolves into the Temple room. This requires significant health and Medi Packs. It's recommended to attempt this after completing a normal run, or reload your save after earning it if pursuing a 'No Medi Packs' challenge.
Trophy Alert -- The Apex Predator: This Trophy is obtainable at the start by defeating a wolf while airborne. Engage the 4 wolves in the first room by performing backflips and side jumps while shooting. Reload your game after earning the Trophy to begin the actual playthrough.
- 1Four wolves appear in the first room upon advancing past the opened doors. Prioritize eliminating them systematically: the one to your far left (1), then the one to your far right (2). After the second wolf falls, roll and backhop into its spawn area to deal with the remaining two (3, 4). With practice, this initial encounter can be completed without taking damage.
- 2Proceed deeper into the area and eliminate one more wolf (5).
- 3Navigate to the room with a small pool and a structure to the left containing a bear (6). To safely defeat the bear, approach the structure from a wide path near the pool. Stand facing the entrances, then quickly run across the square to the right of the right entry and jump onto the nearby wall. The bear will take a longer route to pursue, allowing you to defeat it safely. If you take significant damage, reload and retry.
- 4After dealing with the bear, clear the area of 10 bats (7-16) and one more wolf (17). A small Medi Pack (1) is located in the room with the wolf.
- 5Retrieve a small Medi Pack (2) from the roof of the bear's structure.
Secrets:
- Dive into the pool. At the T-intersection, go right. In the subsequent room, turn sharp left and go behind the column in the NE corner to pull a switch. Exit the room and swim left into a small opening. You will emerge in a room with 4 stone snake heads. The 'Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?' Trophy should pop here. Head into the SE corner room for Secret #1, containing Magnum clips (3) and a small Medi Pack (4).
- Return to the room with the underwater switch. This time, go to the NE corner and pull a switch to open a door above you. Enter this room for Secret #2, which contains a small Medi Pack (5). Pull the nearby switch to return to the room with the pool.
Path to the Temple:
- Locate a switch on the wall ahead and to your left. Activate it and proceed up the stairs. Make a running jump across the gap.
- PS1 Version: Run across the breakaway tiles and attempt to jump into the alcove containing a large Medi Pack (6). If unsuccessful, pull the moveable block into the room to access the Medi Pack. Push the moveable block as far north as possible. Defeat a bat (18), then collect the Gold Idol (7) and Silver Key (8) from the corners of the room ahead. You can then jump to continue.
- Remastered Version: Follow the instructions provided in the accompanying box (details not fully transcribed in source).
