Learn how to defend the Governor's palace in the Capital Defense mission of Tempest Rising. Master unit deployment and strategic use of Cluster Mines to repel Black Legion assaults.
This mission, Capital Defense, is a bit different from your usual fare. It's a defend mission where you'll be protecting the Governor's palace, which takes up a good chunk of the western side of the map. The bad guys, the Black Legion, are going to be coming at you from the east. You'll start with Avitus, Cyrus, and Tarkus, but you'll also get two squads of Imperial Guardsmen to help out. One squad is good at ranged attacks, and the other is better up close, but both can toss out these handy energy-based Cluster Mines. Don't forget about Locator Beacons either – they're special assets you can deploy behind cover.
You've got three squads that can spam Cluster Mines, so go wild with the explosives! You might even feel a little bad for the Chaos Dreadnoughts and Chaos Predator Tanks when they charge in, but not too bad. The Force Commander is going to rack up so many kills with No Mercy, No Respite, it's going to feel amazing. The Force Commander has 2000 HP, so don't worry too much about him.
Even though there will be a lot of enemies, if you just dig in and fortify your position near the Relay Beacon, you should be fine. When Governor Derossa asks you to capture the Array and Shrine, which are to the north and south respectively, you can use Cyrus with Infiltrate or the Force Commander in Terminator armor with Teleport to quickly grab those Strategic Assets.
