Understanding Growth

In SimCity 4, the key to unlocking larger buildings, including high-density residential, commercial, and industrial zones, is managing your city's appeal and services. Ensure you have high land value, excellent education, healthcare, and low pollution. As your city grows and meets these criteria, the game's simulation will automatically upgrade existing low-density buildings to their medium and eventually high-density counterparts. You don't directly place 'large buildings' in the same way you might place an Arcology in SimCity 2000; instead, you create the conditions for them to emerge.

The Role of Demand

Keep an eye on your demand bars for residential, commercial, and industrial sectors. High demand, coupled with the right zoning and services, is what encourages developers to build bigger and taller. What About Arcologies?

Arcologies, those futuristic, self-contained mega-structures, are not a feature in SimCity 4. They were prominent in SimCity 2000 and reappeared in later games like SimCity (2013).
