How to Make the Cypher in Sea of Stars

Alright, let's talk about crafting the Cypher in Sea of Stars. You'll need it to open a specific door later in the game, and finding all the pieces can be a bit of a scavenger hunt. The good news is you can actually find most of these Data Strips before you even reach the door that needs the Cypher, especially if you're the type to explore every nook and cranny. Don't worry if you picked them up earlier and wondered what they were for – they're key items, so you can't ditch them!

Data Strip 1

Your first stop is a small island on the world map called the Speedball Network Station. From the big whirlpool, head north and you'll spot it. Land your ship and head inside the main building. The chest containing the first Data Strip is waiting for you right inside, on the left side.

Data Strip 2

Next up is the Cerulean Reservoir. After you've cleared the Derelict Factory dungeon, you'll gain access to the area containing Repine, as well as two other spots: the Cerulean Expanse and the Cerulean Reservoir. The Reservoir is actually another fishing spot. So, jump in the water and swim all the way to the far end. You'll find a chest there holding your second Data Strip.

Data Strip 3

This next one is located right in the town of Repine. When you first enter the town, head north. At the first split in the path, take a right. You'll see some stairs on your right, but don't go up them. Instead, look for a path to the left of those stairs. Follow it, and you'll find a chest with the third Data Strip. It's not super hidden, but it's easy to miss if you're not looking!

Data Strip 4

The final Data Strip is a bit of a trek and requires you to wait until you can access the Fleshmancer’s Lair, which is the game's final dungeon. Once you're inside, after the first room with blocks, you'll enter a second room. Here, you'll use your Mistral Bracelet to roll a giant eyeball onto a switch. Roll the first eyeball onto the switch near the entrance. Then, roll the second eyeball onto the switch located in the lower right corner of the room. This will allow you to go back to the first eyeball and break through some rocks in the upper right corner of the screen. Behind those rocks is a chest containing the last Data Strip.

Crafting the Cypher

With all four Data Strips in hand, head back to Repine. Go to the room at the top of the town where Cedric is. Interact with the device on the desk on the left side of the room. After a brief bit of dialogue, you'll finally have your Cypher! To find the door it unlocks, look for the doorway with a purple arrow above it – there's a Rainbow Conch in there too. The door itself will be on the right side of that room. Use your newly crafted Cypher to open it.

Inside, you'll find two more chests. One holds a Cosmic Cape armor, and the other contains Question Pack #9.
