Exhuming and Other Fine Hobbies: Seth

Team up with Seth in Red Dead Redemption to find a treasure map piece! Learn how to handle Wanted levels and when to use your free pardon letter.

Alright, so you've stumbled upon Seth and his... interesting hobbies. This mission, "Exhuming and Other Fine Hobbies," is where you officially meet the guy. He's on the hunt for the other half of a treasure map, and he needs your help. Don't worry, it's not too complicated, but there are a couple of things to keep in mind.

First things first, if you've warped to Seth's location using a campfire, give your horse a whistle. You'll need to follow him out into the wilderness to a yellow dot on your map. It's about a five-minute ride, so just enjoy the scenery. Once you get there, Seth needs you to cause a bit of a stir to distract some guards. Your job is to steal one of their horses and lead them on a chase. This gives Seth the opening he needs to go meet up with his 'friend'.

This part of the mission is basically a tutorial for the Wanted system. You'll learn how to get a Wanted status and, more importantly, how to shake it. Just ride along the main road until you're outside the red area on your radar. This means the guards can't see you, and the red bar filling up your Wanted meter will start to go down. Keep an eye on that meter!

Warning: If those guards spot you at any point while your Wanted meter is draining, it'll just refill, and you'll have to start losing them all over again. So, stay out of sight!

Once you've successfully lost the guards and the meter is clear, head back to the shack to meet up with Seth. After a cut-scene, he'll give you a pardon letter at the telegraph office. This letter clears any bounty you have for free. Now, here's a pro tip: don't use that letter right away. It's way more valuable if you save it for when you've racked up a bigger bounty later in the game. Just pay the small $20 bounty now and keep that freebie for a rainy day.
