Alright, so you're diving into the world of Phantom Blade Zero and want to get a handle on combat. It's pretty fast-paced, a real dance between offense and defense, all built around these cool Sha-Chi strategies. Think of it like this: you'll be using Sha-Chi to unleash some seriously powerful martial arts moves. Let's break down how it all works so you can start dominating those fights.

Basic Attack

Your bread and butter is the Normal Attack, which you'll do by pressing !Square. Don't just spam it, though! You can chain these together into combo attacks. If you nail the timing, you can even pull off a Full Basic Combo by hitting !Square four times in a row.

Lock-on

To make sure you're focusing on the right enemy, use Lock-on by pressing R3. This is super helpful for keeping track of their health and their Sha-Chi. If you need to switch targets, just use <-R->.

Sha-Chi Combos

These are your heavy hitters, way more potent than basic combos, but they'll cost you some Sha-Chi. If you run out, don't worry, you'll just need to wait a moment for it to regenerate. Here are a few examples:

Switching Weapons

You can carry two main weapons and switch between them on the fly using the Left D-Pad. Here's a neat trick: when you switch weapons, your Sha-Chi is fully restored! Definitely keep that in mind.

Secondary Weapons

You can also equip up to two Phantom Edges as secondary weapons. Use them with R2, or hold R2 for a charged attack. Switching between these is done with the Right D-Pad.

Block

Need to play defensively? Hold L1 to enter a defensive concentration mode. This will drain your Sha-Chi over time, and each blocked attack will cost you more. Use it wisely!

Opponent's Sha-Chi

Remember, your enemies have Sha-Chi too! Landing hits on them will chip away at their Sha-Chi meter. Once it's depleted, they'll be wide open for direct attacks. Sha-Chi combos are your best bet for draining it quickly.

Dodge

When blocking isn't an option, dodging is your friend. A simple backstep is done with R1. For a sidestep, press L + R1. This will help you avoid those nasty enemy attacks.

Quick Items

You've got quick items at your disposal. Use them by pressing Down D-Pad, and switch between them with Up D-Pad.

Parry

Timing is everything with a Parry! Press L1 just as an attack is about to land. A successful parry negates your Sha-Chi cost and drains a good chunk of the attacker's Sha-Chi. Plus, you'll gain Sha-Chi essence from each parry.

Brutal Moves & Ghostep

Watch out for Brutal Moves, indicated by a blue flash. Blocking these costs a lot of Sha-Chi. However, if you time a L1 press right before it hits, you'll parry it and automatically perform a Ghostep, putting you in a prime backstabbing position. Ghostepping also builds up Sha-Chi essence.

Killer Moves

These are the most dangerous enemy attacks, signaled by a red flash. You can't block or parry Killer Moves. Your only option is to tap R1 right before it lands to evade and perform a Ghostep for a backstab.

Power Surge

Need to bypass an enemy's defenses? Use Power Surge with L2. This powerful combo guarantees direct hits. Each Power Surge costs one Sha-Chi Essence point. You'll build up Sha-Chi essence by landing normal attacks, parrying, or performing Ghosteps.

Assassination

If you manage to get the drop on an unsuspecting target from behind or above, you can press ![Triangle]() to perform an instant assassination. Stealthy!
