Random Encounters

Learn how to complete all Random Encounters in Just Cause 3, from Out of Gas to Aerial Assassination. Unlock priests for fast travel.

Random Encounters in Just Cause 3 are short, unmapped events that spawn nearby. A light-green circle (a visual indicator) appears on your screen, and as you approach, the encounter's name displays. While rewards are usually minor (a flare, beacon, or re-supply point), some encounters unlock priests, which can be found in Monasteries and are used to fast-forward time and clear heat.

Out of Gas

To complete this encounter, tether (connect with your grapple) the stuck vehicle to a functional vehicle and drive it to the nearest gas station (marked on the screen). Warning: Killing the NPC (non-player character — anyone the game controls, not you) or damaging the car will result in failure.

Stuck Gate

Tether the gate to the floor and retract. You may need multiple tethers depending on your upgrades. Warning: Breaking the gate or killing the NPC will result in failure.

Grounded Boat

Get the boat back in the water by tethering it to the sand and retracting. Warning: Destroying the boat or killing the NPC will result in failure.

Vehicle Delivery

Get in the vehicle and drive it safely to the marked location. Exit the vehicle to complete the encounter. This encounter may have different names like Buggy Delivery, Juggernaut, or Smuggler's Run. Warning: Killing the NPC or destroying the vehicle will result in failure.

Item Delivery

Tether the marked object to a helicopter and take it to the marked location. Warning: The death of the NPC or the destruction of the object will result in failure.

Firing Squad

Kill the two guards aiming at the rebels before they kill them, then kill the third guard before he calls for reinforcements. Warning: The death of a rebel will result in failure.

Make it look like an accident

Steal the limo and drive it to the green circle on the screen (ignore yellow arrows). Let the NPC get in the car. To complete, drive the vehicle off a cliff or crash it to kill the NPC. Warning: Taking too long to pick up or kill the NPC will result in failure.

Convoy Rescue

Steal the convoy and lose heat (the attention of authorities) to complete this quest. Warning: The destruction of the convoy will result in failure.

Rebel Breakout

Steal the vehicle, lose heat, and let the rebel out of the vehicle to complete the quest. Warning: The death of the rebel will result in failure.

Getaway driver

Get a car, drive to the rebel's location, let him enter the vehicle, and drive him to safety. Warning: The death of the rebel will result in failure.

Aerial Assassination

This encounter only spawns if you are driving a helicopter or plane. Kill the enemy marked with a red triangle (a marker on your HUD (heads-up display — the on-screen icons showing health, ammo and the minimap)) to complete the encounter.

• Priests, once unlocked, can be found in Monasteries and are used to fast-forward time and clear heat.
