The Automatic Rifleman is a critical force multiplier within a Hell Let Loose: Vietnam squad, specializing in sustained suppressive fire and area denial. Armed with powerful light machine guns (LMGs) such as the M60, this role is designed to pin down enemy positions, break assaults, and provide overwhelming firepower to support squad advances. The M60, for example, boasts a large ammunition capacity, typically 100 rounds per magazine, and a high rate of fire, making it exceptionally effective at suppressing enemy positions and creating kill zones. However, this power comes at the cost of mobility; Automatic Riflemen are generally slower to move and have longer reload times compared to other infantry roles.

Mastering the Automatic Rifleman role involves understanding the art of suppression. The goal is not always to get direct kills, but to keep enemies pinned down, preventing them from effectively returning fire or advancing. By laying down a constant stream of bullets on known or suspected enemy positions, you can significantly disrupt their operations and allow your squad mates to maneuver or advance safely. This is particularly effective when assaulting fortified positions or defending key objectives like the Khe Sanh Combat Base.
