Discover the locations of Overshields and Active Camouflage power-ups in Halo: Combat Evolved. Learn how these items work and their strategic uses.

This section will provide locations to any Overshields or Active Camouflages that I have found throughout the game. If I miss any, you can always email me the locations and I'll be more than happy to add them and credit you. Now, to describe the two sets of items.

Overshield: An overshield looks like a red sphere inside of a transparent cube. When picking up an overshield, you will be provided with two extra layers of shields. The first layer is red, and the second layer is green. When you take damage with an overshield, the green layer will wear out first, and then the red layer, and these layers do not recharge. Not only can picking up an overshield provide you with extra shields, you can pick one up to instantly fill up your shields if you have low or no shields and are under attack by enemies. Another strategic reason to pick up an overshield is that you are temporarily immune while your overshield is filling up, so you won't take any kind of damage. Be aware that getting hit from a charged Plasma Pistol bolt will instantly drain your shields completely, even with an overshield, and you can still take significant damage from explosions with an overshield.

Active Camouflage: An active camouflage looks like a blue sphere inside of a transparent triangle. When picking up an Active Camouflage, you will be temporarily cloaked, and enemies will be unable to see you. These are most useful when you want to run through a tough stretch of enemies undetected. Be aware that firing your weapon or getting hit will temporarily uncloak yourself, leaving you vulnerable to being attacked. Throwing grenades or using your melee attack will not reveal yourself, so you can also use the Active Camouflage to strategically attack enemies (such as getting behind an Elite and hitting it in the back to instantly kill it). Also, if you happen to get into a vehicle while camouflaged, enemies will attack you, even though you will appear cloaked while in the vehicle. However, enemies will NOT attack you once you get out of the vehicle.
