Learn how to navigate Gris's crumbling world, master her new abilities like jumping, and discover the hidden 'Denial' grief challenge in this walkthrough.

Hey there! So, you've just started Gris and found her collapsed in a broken world. Don't worry, we'll get her moving and exploring in no time. Your first goal is just to get Gris to stand up and walk. Point the left joystick to the right, and she'll start moving forward. As she moves, you'll see the world around her slowly come back to life. Keep going until she collapses again after passing through a fog cloud. When she gets up this time, she'll be a bit faster and gain the ability to jump! She's like a little bird now, ready to explore.

Now, here's a cool little secret: after you get the jump ability, try going back to the left a bit. You'll see a small pillar and a collapsed statue nearby. Walk Gris close to the statue and let her fall. Here's the tricky part: don't touch the controller at all when she gets up. If you do it right, you'll see a notification pop up saying you've completed the 'First Stage of Grief: Denial'. It's a neat little challenge, and there are five of these 'stages of grief' to find throughout the game, each with its own special requirement.

Keep moving forward, and the world will get rockier. You'll climb a big rock, and once you leap over the edge, there's no going back. You'll eventually come across a small, pulsing light – this is a 'Star'. When Gris approaches it, she'll absorb it, and it'll become her little companion. You'll need these!

Continue past where you found the first Star. Look for some crumbling platforms, the first one marked by a tree with upside-down triangular leaves. Jump across these platforms to the left until you see a tall black mountain to your right. Climb up this mountain, and you'll find a second Star to collect. Not too far after that, you'll see a large gap that you can't cross yet – you don't have enough Stars!

Luckily, there's a third Star nearby. Head up the stairs to your left, and you'll find a large leaning tower. Climb the zigzagging stairs to the top. Once there, your two little Star companions will automatically create a bridge for you. Use this bridge to reach a smaller tower nearby and collect your third Star.

Before you head back across the gap, there's a collectible called a 'Memento' hidden here. Go up the first staircase on the leaning tower, then jump to the left. You'll see a symbol on the ground – that's the Memento! Walk over it to activate it. There are more of these to find later, but this is the first one in this chapter.

Now, head back to the gap. With your three Star companions, they'll form a bridge for you. Cross it, and keep moving right until you reach a crumbling stone hand. A short cutscene will play, and you'll get a notification that you've completed a challenge: 'Red - A Color Has Been Brought Back'. You can check your completed challenges in the Pause Menu; these color challenges are usually awarded when you finish a chapter.

Continue on until you reach a huge staircase leading up to a temple. At the top, look at the back wall – there's a pictogram showing a leaning tower and two circles with a dot. If you found that Memento earlier, one of those symbols should be lit up. You'll find the other one later.

Go inside the temple area, and you'll see a blood-red tree. Your Star companions will leave you here to form a constellation in the sky. Don't worry, you'll get them back later. On the other side of the red tree, at the edge of the stairs going down, you'll see symbols on black walls. These mark the game's chapters and have their own Mementos to find.

Head down the stairs and keep going right until you start sliding down a steep red mountainside. Once you land on flat ground, continue right until you reach a black tower. As you get close to the top, Gris will automatically finish the climb, and a cutscene will play. This marks the end of the prologue!
