Embark on the Mountain Clans Saga in Disciples II: Rise of the Elves! This guide details the 'Lost Runes' mission, from retrieving powerful artifacts to understanding lore and strategy.

Alright, let's dive into the Mountain Clans Saga in Disciples II: Rise of the Elves! This first mission, 'Lost Runes,' kicks things off by throwing you into a bit of a mess. Ten years back, the Mountain Clans managed to seal away the God of the Legions of the Damned, Bethrezen, using some seriously powerful runic magic. Sadly, only seven of the original twelve Clans survived the brutal first Great Wars against the Undead Hordes. After their leader, Sturmir Thunderhammer, tragically died, Morok Cloudkeeper stepped up as the new King. He's a great warrior, but he's having trouble keeping all seven remaining Clans united, and some have even gone off on their own.

Now, Wotan, the Dwarven God, had originally gifted twelve runes to the Mountain Clans. The runes belonging to the five Clans that were destroyed are still missing. Morok's tasking you with scouring the ruins of their old Cities to find these lost runes. Your main objective for this first mission is to grab the lost runes from the Dwarven Cities of Springfrost, Cragwell, and Skymine.

Where to Go: Cragwell is located in the south-eastern part of the map. Springfrost is directly east of your Capital City, and then a bit south once you hit the edge of the map. Skymine is straight north of your Capital.

Strategy Tip: Since the Mountain Clans can be a bit tricky to play with their lower initiative ratings, I'd really recommend taking some time to explore and clear out the surrounding areas before you go after those three cities. There are plenty of weaker enemies like peasants and thugs near your Capital, which are perfect for gaining experience and XP. Plus, you can always retreat to your Capital to heal up!

Lore Drop: As you're heading down the western side of the map (or just generally exploring), an Engineer will rush back to your Capital with some grim news for Morok. It turns out Morok's son, Gymner Cloudkeeper, has been killed. He was on his way to perform a sacred ritual to strengthen the runes that keep Bethrezen's Infernal Gate sealed. To make matters worse, the Engineer reports that the Legions of the Damned have returned to Nevendaar, and Gymner's body was found clutching one of the twelve sacred runes – specifically, the rune needed for the ritual. You'll end up gaining Skadi's Liberty Rune for your troubles, but this is definitely not a good sign. Morok, understandably devastated, sends the Engineer to scout further, suspecting the situation is even worse than it seems.

Encounter: As you get close to the ruins of Cragwell, a Troll will pop up, making it clear you're not exactly welcome. Looks like retrieving these lost runes won't be a walk in the park!
