Begin your quest in Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse! Learn how to start a new game, enter your name, and prepare for Trevor Belmont's epic journey.

Welcome to Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse! Once we get the game started up and view the main titles, we'll also get to view a brief in-game plot synopsis:

During 15th Century Europe, there lived a person named Dracula.

He practiced sorcery in order to create a bad world filled with evil.

He began taking over the Continent of Europe, changing countries from good to bad.

The good people of Europe tried to fight off Dracula, but no one was able to survive.

Finally, the Belmont family was summoned to battle Dracula's vile forces.

The Belmont family has a long history of fighting evil.

The townspeople became afraid of the Belmonts super-human power and asked them to leave the country. Fortunately the people found a mighty Belmont, called Trevor.

The curse of Dracula had begun. The fate of Europe lies with Trevor.

Following this, we can now get started playing. From the next menu there are two options: OPENING, or PASSWORD. The latter, as it suggests, lets you resume a game in progress through a password noted down at the end of a previous playthrough. Otherwise, if you're starting the game afresh, as we are assuming you are doing, select the first option to then be taken to the Name Entry Screen. Here, you can enter a name of up to 8 characters – certain names can also double as codes to allow you to play Hard Mode, start the game with additional characters, or start with extra lives (see the Cheats section of the guide for more details). Once you choose END to confirm your file name, we're ready to begin the game proper, and we'll see you at the start of Level 1!
