Tomb Raider (1996) City of Vilcabama walkthrough: Learn how to defeat wolves, bears, and bats, and find all 3 secrets.

Walkthrough
  1. 1
Four wolves await in the first room. Advance past the opened doors to trigger them. Aim for the wolf on the far left (1), then the one on the far right (2). After the second wolf falls, roll and backhop into the area it came from to defeat the remaining two wolves (3, 4). If you are willing to replay this sequence, you can emerge with no damage.
  2. 2
Head deeper into the area and kill one more wolf (5) ahead of you.
  3. 3
From the room with the fifth wolf, take a left to the room with a small pool. A bear (6) is inside a building with two entries. To defeat it safely, take a wide path around the structure near the pool. Stand facing the entrances, run across the square to the right of the right entry, and jump onto the nearby wall. The bear will take the long way up the stairs to pursue you, giving you time to finish it off.
  4. 4
If you take significant damage, reload and try again, as little progress has been made.
  5. 5
Kill 10 bats (7-16) and one more wolf (17). In the room with the wolf, find a small Medi Pack (1).
  6. 6
Retrieve a small Medi Pack (2) from the roof of the bear's abode.
  7. 7
Dive into the pool. At the T-intersection, go right. When you reach a room, turn sharp left and go behind the column in the NE corner to pull a switch.
  8. 8
Go back out the way you came. Proceed to the end and swim left into a small opening.
  9. 9
You will emerge in a room with 4 stone snake heads. Jump to the decking with the snake heads to trigger the "Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?" Trophy.
  10. 10
Enter the room in the SE corner for Secret #1. Pick up Magnum clips (3) and a small Medi Pack (4).
  11. 11
Return to the room with the underwater switch. Go to the NE corner and pull a switch to open a door above you.
  12. 12
Enter the room above for Secret #2 – a small Medi Pack (5).
  13. 13
Pull the nearby switch to return to the open door and proceed back to the room with the pool.
  14. 14
Ahead and to your left, find a switch on the wall. Activate it and follow the path up the stairs. Make a running jump across the gap.
  15. 15
PS1: Run across the breakaway tiles and try to jump into the alcove with the large Medi Pack. If successful, grab the loot (6). If not, pull the moveable block into the room and use it to access the Large Medi Pack (6). Push the moveable block as far north as it will go. Kill the bat (18), then grab the Gold Idol (7) and the Silver Key (8) from the corners of the room straight ahead. You can then jump to continue.
  16. 16
Remastered: Proceed as outlined in the box below.
Tips
  • The level contains 3 Secrets, 13 pickups, 29 kills, and 14 breakaway tiles.
  • You can earn the "Dances With Wolves" Trophy by luring all 11 wolves into the room with the Temple. This will require Medi packs. You can reload your game afterward to continue a "No Medi Packs" run.
  • The "The Apex Predator" Trophy can be earned by defeating a wolf while you are both airborne. This is achievable at the beginning of the level by running into the first room, shooting, and performing back flips and side jumps. Reload your game after earning the Trophy.
  • Wolves in this level have extra durability. Expect to lose half of Lara's life in the first battle against 4 wolves.
  • Strive to finish the level using only pistols to save premium ammo.
  • The level is easier if you avoid triggering the bear by the central pool. You will miss a pickup, but it is a worthwhile trade-off.
  • If you take significant damage, reload and try again early in the level.
  • You can earn 3 Trophies in this level.
  • There are 2 Save Crystals in this level, and both are needed early on.
